If we sign up to the backstop there will be no successful resolution to the Irish border until the EU have fully screwed us in the negotiations.

But that would mean us signing up to the backstop, would it not ?

i could have sworn I was talking about the eventuality of us doing a deal on the Irish border, right now & therefore the backstop being dropped ?

Is that not what I spelled out, several times ?

I could have sworn I even used the word 'today' as an example somewhere & mentioned that 'the backstop' can't get through Parliament ?

Talking of backstops Foster has done in a piece in the Telegraph outlining why it won’t go away no matter the pressure. Industry, agriculture, the main opposition party all back Varadkar’s stand. In short no deal is better then compromise.

It would be quite funny if he & the Mogg Squad ended up creating a United Ireland, then, after an election, the, SNP, Greens etc could hold the balance of power in Parliament & the SNP demands a referendum & we could end up with an independant Scotland, in the EU.

If the good people of Scotland or Northern Ireland decide their future is not within the United Kingdom anymore then that is a matter for them and who am I to argue with what the people of a nation want to do . That’s democracy.

It is a legal obligation on both sides. If they ignore it they will open themselves up to legal proceedings.

WTO rules require tariffs - how do you apply tariffs without checks?

How do you stop Immigration without checks?

That is a big IF, and no-one is convinced there will be successful negotiations, given what we've seen so far.

I don't imagine it will be sold on the promise of them 'doing a better deal' with us, where they get all the benefits of being in the UK but we get fuck all in return, either.

Because of course, there is no way on Earth anyone here would sign up to that.
