I’ve been thinking about the backstop over the weekend. Would you consider taking the backstop if the power of releasing us from it was taken away from the EU and given to a third party? Possibly an independent panel in the UN or potentially signed over to the US to make the final call?

That doesn't really fit with "taking back control", does it? But believe it or not, there was a bloke on the radio last year saying we should give the power to a country like Canada

No absolutely not, I’m just keen to hear what a leave supporter who despises the backstop thinks.

I certainly won’t be supportive of the actual policy but yes I’ll have to accept it if they put it in their manifesto and enact it.

It’ll certainly be democratic if they do too.
Apart from possibly forming a government on the votes of 25% of the electorate.

Of course they won't, they didn't respect the first referendum result so why respect the second?

Similarly, why will leave voters respect any result to remain? Farage et al will continue to fight tooth and nail which will mean we never see a majority government for decades.

The day we have a second referendum is the day all confidence and respect for our political system will be destroyed forever.
Like in Ireland? They just realised they'd made a horrible mistake and voted again. I'm not sure why so many have made a fetish of a "not entirety overwhelming result" (B Johnson).

I've not really considered the backstop over the weekend, but I have been having a good look at what Jo Swainson has to offer and I'm pretty impressed tbh.

There's the 1957 European Convention for the Peaceful Settlement of Disputes, or the International Court of Justice.

You certainly can't "take back control" by being judge in your own case, but there are existing bodies that could arbitrate.

As I don't want to find out I don't understand, I won't suggest that "unfettered" is a scare word that doesn't stack up against the possibility of international arbitration.

Painful watch as Lemi has a terrible interviewing technique and the UKIP guy comes across very well and measured in his responses. Wondered if any of our residents could debunk some of his output ?

They?

A few things and I've only watched 1 minute:

1) how many people who voted Leave read Batton's book?
2) Leaving without deal does not leave us in a strong position
3) The official Leave campaign said we would get a deal, as did all prominent figures

Lol

I’ve looked up my constituency and previous polling and I’ve genuinely got a choice between Tory or LibDem. It hasn’t been anything but those two for many years.
Don't worry, Jeremy will offer new hope. Hahahahaahahahaha.

(If diminishing the Labour vote is the objective)

I can't think of any reason why people living near the border, would accept any kind of 'compromise' unless they were extreme anti Dublin, Unionists.

It is just giving them loads of extra problems they don't currently have.

Imagine sticking one across the middle of Manchester ? How many would support that ?
What's a compromise in this regard anyway? Stick half of Derry, Tyrone, Fermanagh, half of Belfast and South Armagh on the EU/ROI side of the border and the rest on the other?

Oh I want to be a celebrity . This is the modern world as the jam said

Get a selfie stick a daft t shirt and a Twitter account and off you go.

Failing that a big hat and a foghorn and off you go.
