Prorogation - Judgment Day:10.30am Tuesday 24/9/19

Makes it easier to identify the poncy grammar school kids and give them a good hiding.
Maybe we should have all kids wearing exactly the same uniform, no matter which school they go to?

Surely, it's not like having these uniforms leads to pupils of some schools looking down on pupils of others?

I guess there maybe some schools that insist on specific blazers and badges that are exclusive to some suppliers and are expensive. Not most mainstream schools though

The former, generally.

Euh these were somewhat conflicting reactions, are there certain elite schools or is it all the same?

Are these kids who wear the same uniforms as everyone so they don’t feel poor allowed to have different (less expensive than the other kids) phones? What about bags and cold weather coats, are they all the same as well?

The poor ones can be identified by having no coats, holes in their shoes but having the latest phones and their parents smoking 200 fags a day and having a 75 inch plasma. It's all about how they prioritise their enormous benefit cheques........

Arguing that the same uniform for all children eliminates the poor ones being picked on is bollocks as phones/bags/coats etc can be used in place of clothing.
Uniforms get children used to wearing one in their adult lives whilst in the army or stacking shelves for Aldi.

Does it REALLY?

If you'd hold a referendum among students in the UK, would they decide to do away with it you think? Or vote for it?

I'm asking because we Belgians don't wear school uniforms since like decades ago and everybody here seems to be of the idea "uniforms sucked".

And especially in terms of identity ... it's kinda conformist isn't it? Aka don't stand out?
My three nieces are Belgian and when they were in school, there very much was a culture in the school of kids having the designer labels.
There was a stigma on those that couldn't afford such things.

Anyone else got any thoughts?

We would leave with May’s WA. We would call it the ‘Boris Deal’ but essentially it would be the same. The bulk of the Tory Party did vote for the WA. It was the lack of a majority that killed it. May knew she would have problems hence why she went to the country for a mandate and a big majority. We know how that ended up.

Authoritarian instruction, needed for the days when we fought wars all over the planet. Uniform wearing at school, paved the way for uniform wearing in battle. A natural progression for a nation intent on imperialistic conquering of the planet. The freedom of expression is muted and the typical British stiff upper lip mentality is imbued into the pupils at a very young age. It is the mental conditioning need for a war like nation. Now it is more tradition and the British love a bit of tradition as it is largely a small c conservative nation.

A school uniform is also indicitive of the British class system and the old school tie network is still at large. State schools are deferential to the old Public Schools and try to emulate them by having uniforms that help create their own alma mater. Many things in British life hark back to the days of deference to the Lord of the Manor. Even some simple things. When Capability Brown the great landscape gardener started create gardens at the great country houses, the working class in their deference to what is called "front of house" would highly polish their front door steps as they saw it is a sign of nobility.

Haha, what a load of shite.

It's needed as if kids wore their own clothes you'd find a different style of 'class' in schools and the poorest kids would be getting bullied mercilessly because they can't afford the latest trends.

It doesn't, but then if you want to go down that route parents dropping kids off in the fancier car will be the next argument. At least with the uniform it's someway of keeping them all in the same group.

How the fuck can people not see this! Seriously - no wonder the country is fucked.

I was only asking some questions. I'm not even Brittish, i'm Belgian. We don't have uniforms in belgium, its not like our country is fucked that much for it.

Anyway, the reason why i asked some questions regarding private education was because you listed "ending private education" as some extreme policy pomoted by Corbyn. It came across kinda strange to me because we hardly have any private education in Belgium and it's not such an extreme thing tbh.

If we’d never had it here I’m not sure that many would pushing to bring it in. It’s more of a freedom of choice issue. Labour’s conference voted to strip private institutions of their assets which would be illegal. And it would be hugely expensive to bring private education to a sudden halt.

I’m all for gradually reducing the benefits of private education. Phase out the tax benefits to start with and take it from there. But it has to be done sensibly and gradually

Geee

I'd push for some education reform

Closing all private schools is one
Getting rid of Trident.
A 32 hour working week!
High Taxes on companies
Garden Tax
Scrap prescription charges
Free movement of people.
Right to buy - private housing tenants - aka theft.

Off the top of my head.

Crazy communist ideas to the vast majority and not going to work!

Closing all private schools is one - dont know anyone who really gives a shite on the subject in a negative way, plus they are not bing closed, hiist brought into the education system
Getting rid of Trident. - not labour policy so not relevant
A 32 hour working week! - a lot of businesses do this already we have a very diverse work pattern society
High Taxes on companies - as per first one don't know anyone against this
Garden Tax - Never heard of it prbably not a policy
Scrap prescription charges - A great policy and as it should be
Free movement of people. - not actually what has been proposed, but rights to people moving, residing and contributing here.
Right to buy - private housing tenants - aka theft - Actually it is siezing houses left dormant for years and reusing rather than them left to rot, again a good policy, don't buy a house of you don't want to use it.

Hardly communism, and won't include starving the poorest, making people including ex servemen (600 last count) homeless and killing or driving to suicide the disabled or sick.
