He didn't set a date and he didn't request an extension. He requested an open ended mandate to hold a election. Keep up at the back. They voted it down - do keep up at the back ;-)
He tabled a motion for a GE through the Fixed Term Parliament Act - twice - and it was voted down twice not reaching the required threshold. That legislation entailed a fixed and unalterable date on October 17th, he can't request the Benn extension until October 19th. Please don't be tedious. He didn't set a date and he didn't request an extension. He requested an open ended mandate to hold a election. Keep up at the back.
Brace yourself for the bald truth BJ: The window for No Deal will always be there until there is a deal or A50 is revoked. The only force required would be the democratic choice of the electorate, reconfirmed by another GE if necessary.
He wasn't trusted to obey it. He should have ensured the extension, then tried to win a majority and overturn the act. He tried to bypass parliament instead, that sovereign body you all keep telling us about. He tabled a motion for a GE through the Fixed Term Parliament Act - twice - and it was voted down twice. Most of this is undeniably true except it isn't my PM or my party or anything I believe, or have fallen for, or haven't seen for the lies and cons that they undoubtedly are. No sunlit uplands or unicorns in sight from where I am sitting, just the destruction of a once great Labour Party allowing this disgusting Tory spectacle to be played out.STOP IT please ... my fucking sides are aching ... your PM (lol) has stated this morning that there are to be 40 new hospitals ...analysis has shown they're actually just six .... and even they are not new (they might even finish the one left empty in Liverpool after the disastrous Carrilion collapse ... which they promised to do but no work has been done on it for over a year) ... please stop falling for this fuckin bullshit ... cos that's what it is ... they are lying to you
Oh and after 10 years in power actually at which point did they realise that (lol) 40 new hospitals were needed ... and who the flying flamingo is going to staff them after YOUR PARTY removed the nurses bursary. Sunny uplands and Unicorns eh ......Party of liars and con artists
October 17th was the date proposed.He could've proposed a date .... its in his gift .... but didn't .... can't be trusted
He had no option, he couldn't ask for the Benn extension until Oct 19 and all the rest was a direct consequence of blocking a GE.He wasn't trusted to obey it. He should have ensured the extension, then tried to win a majority and overturn the act. He tried to bypass parliament instead, that sovereign body you all keep telling us about.
Im no defender of Johnson or the tories, but I assume he was talking election deals not parliamentary deals. Its why I’ve said for a while the conservative party constituencies wouldn't stand for any kind of pact at the election with the BP and why the BP will cost the tories any chance of a majority in the election. Which is fine by me.He said on Marr this morning that the CONservatives don't do deals with other parties
has he forgotten the coalition with the Lib Dems ..... the bribe to the DUP
lying again ...... it must be a required competency of a Tory
I don't really have a problem with him saying surrender.Do you think it's acceptable for Johnson to use the grammar he's been throwing out there, 'surrender, traitor' etc?
Er never? How many times are you going to use the word could without realising how poor your argument is?
Johnson proposed an act that didn't have a set date for a GE while 'promising' it would be before October 31st. The inverted commas were needed there, as he can't be trusted to keep his word.
Those that advocate no deal are scumbags and thick as fuck.
What a balanced and reasonable post - not
Actually, it can only be you ranting because I really doubt that you are that ignorant of the facts and reality.
Nobody should be 'advocating' a no-deal as a preferred outcome - I certainly don't think anyone on here is - so why this silly rant - just seems attention seeking?
I guess that's as good a way of avoiding a straightforward question as any other. Would you like me to explain (what you already know) so I can put you on the spot a bit more? I'm guessing not.
The legislation was not about stopping us leaving the EU, it was about leaving the EU with no deal, something which anyone who has half a brain should wish to avoid. And the language being used is designed to trigger certain emotions in the general public which are very dangerous.I don't really have a problem with him saying surrender.
The legislation to prevent us from leaving the EU was an absolute bloody disgrace. Think about it: If that legislations stands and is never repealed then the all the EU has to do is say "the deal on the table is the best you are going to get" and then what can we do? Our only options are to accept it (and it truly is a fucking awful deal). Or not leave. Those are the oniy two options, because the walk away option has been surrendered. We have unilaterally surrendered all our negotiating power. It was ridiculous legislation.
I haven't heard him call people traitors, but honestly if he did so what. I've heard a lot worse and people should stop falling over themselves to be mortified for political reasons.
I was working for the FSA in the years leading up to the crash and heard first hand from board members their frustrations at the way Brown caved into the banks continually as they sought to introduce regulationsYou wrote that with a straight face as well.
Bravo Vic.
