For Labour to vote for it, won’t they have to make the argument that the deal is better than staying in I.e do Johnson’s job for him?

It is very difficult for Labour as it isn’t typical behaviour of the Opposition to vote through potentially damaging Government policy

No. "This deal is not better than staying in. It does not meet the criteria we set for what would be an acceptable deal. If it does not break the Good Friday Agreement then, in accord with the original referendum and honouring the votes of the 16m who voted Leave and are still alive, we will not vote against the deal. Just don't blame us when (a) it doesn't 'put an end to it' and (b) you realise there are no unicorns."

That's most interesting, thanks very much for taking the trouble to explain, as you may have guessed I'm no lawyer. It's been a tricky couple of days actually, we've had a City supporting judge friend who's an ex Law Commisioner staying as a house guest and my lay views on loss of sovereignty etc have also been under great strain as a result. He'd also had the AG appearing before him recently and was not well disposed after the great man's frequent absences due to other pressing engagements - which extended the trial by several weeks. We watched Sir Geoffrey's parliamentary statement together on TV and he found his reaction to the SC judgment highly amusing. I shall reflect further on both your comments before trespassing on this subject again.
Fuck - you are good

Well done

Telegraph reports Johnson to reveal to EU leaders his final Brexit plan within 24 hours - ...... brace yourselves folks here comes the stop back

It is even more cunning than a stop back. The plan to prevent a hard border in Ireland with custom posts and all the gubbins is...to have a hard border in Ireland with custom posts and all the gubbins. The EU won’t see that one coming.

Face it lads. Brexit ain’t happening.

It was met with exasperated disbelief on the RTE news.
Any Irish government contemplating capitulation would be committing political suicide, if this is all that the UK have, it was reported.

The sex pest is asking the EU to override a request from Parliament and block an extension and in return we will impose a hard border in Ireland.

Well squeeze my thigh if that ain’t a winning argument.

Cant wait to hear the official government description of this not very cunning plan. I bet it doesn’t include the words hard, border or customs. Whatever it is, it will be swallowed hook, line and sinker by Boris’s sycophants.

But only them. Not by the ERG - not by most Brexiters and Farage will have a field day

"But I'm only delivering to this side of the border. I don't need paperwork."
"How do we know you're not crossing the border?"

I think they might have got the idea from elsewhere in the EU with a problematic border:

I think that it would be a good idea to have a referendum on whether or not in the future referendums should be retained as a vehicle to consult the public.

Option 1: Should referendums be retained as a vehicle to consult the public on major matters of policy and secure their mandate

Option 2: Should referendums be removed as a vehicle to consult the public on major matters of policy and secure their mandate because patently the public are too fucking stupid
I think it would be the best idea to not have another referendum until we have a written constitutional provision for one.

That lack of provision has been the root cause of the issue to me. It has allowed the referendum result to be ignored

Quite sure the Government knows that the EU will reject its customs points (targets) idea, so it's more a ploy to be seen to propose a 'moderate' solution whose rejection the media will use to paint the EU in a poorer light. Expect a few EU comments today that identify when this was first mooted and rejected and calls for fresh and serious proposals. Ball will be back in Downing Street's side of the court again by tomorrow.

But all the faux outrage is just the desperation of Remainers that are getting concerned that he might just get Brexit done IMO

That is a bit unfair, I am on balance around 60/40 in favour of leave, I am full of outrage at Johnson for his disregard for Parliament and his numerous fidelities and peccadillos
