Another new Brexit thread

Of course it’s possible. They’ve already agree to May’s deal. If we went back to that with a cosmetic makeover the deal would be done. It would even make it through Parliament if there was an amendment to include a confirmatory referendum. That’s the easiest and quickest way out of the mess we’re in.

Fair enough, but in that case why are you complaining about what Cameron and Osborne said? If what they said made no difference to you why reference them in answer to DD’s point that the leave campaign’s lies don’t match the reality we now face?

Or do you think the losing side should be held to what they said during the campaign but the winning side shouldn’t?

I only care that parliament decided to give the electorate the final say and that main parties made it clear they would honour the result and that government would enact it.

I will say again, had remain won and the government said fuck it, we are leaving anyway i would be just as vocal for remain, despite me voting to leave because our democracy is far more important.

The behaviour of the vast majority of MP's and our political parties the last 3 years has been an utter disgrace and stain against the nation.

Germany and France combined have 23% of the vote in the Eu Parliament and 8% of the Eu Council. To get on the Parliament you have to be a directly elected MEP and to get on the Council you have to be an elected head of state. So your reasoning is BS.

Well we can agree on the last point at least.

But when you say the important point is that Parliament gave the public the final say, isn’t that exactly why the lies told during the campaign become important?

I get that you think that what was promised hasn’t been delivered, but it’s also true that what’s being delivered wasn’t what was promised.

Must be why the words of Merkel and Macron are constantly used rather than those of Iohannis and Ratas.

No-one knows really.
Losing a vote on the QS isn't a reason under the Fixed-term act, I don't think. It would still require a VoNC or 2/3 agreement.
The QS debate may not be over by then anyway.

Anyway, isn't the reason is simply that that 19/10 is the date in the Benn act to force a request for extension if no deal is passed?

I assume that he is required by law to request the extension the day before and therefore if he has not complied that would be the day he could get them all in in person and stick two fingers up at them all.

Its that or some weasel plan that will fall apart.
