They have always had a far greater fear of compromising their own red lines than they have of no deal, which I don't think has ever been acknowledged by some.
And if a deal comes that doesn't? genuine question btw.
You have to assume the DUP and the ERG are continously kept on board with BoJo's proposals which have to also contain an opportunity for the EU/Irish to show they have secured their objective. (Which of course they haven't since Brexit wasn't stopped and no part of the UK would be subject to indefinite EU jurisdiction.) I see Johnson is currently intoning 'Only a pathway - no done deal yet and we are ready to leave without one in 20 days.' btw

yeah cos it’s not grandstanding and perfectly diplomatic to say

there is a special place in hell for leave voters

That is not what he said.

Not that i agree in the slightest with what he Did say, at any point. But if you are going to make a point, get it right and thus relevant.

That seems a bit of back sliding?

It is Leavers that have said a deal will be done and that the prospect of a no-deal helps that because without that threat there is no need for the EU to move from their stronger position

I sense some proper reinventing of what as gone before coming up

I know plenty of people on all sides of the debate that thought a deal could get done. I do think you need to get away from the idea of there purely being only remainers and leavers who all have exactly the same opinion and mindset of each individual issue.

I do think people really should wait to see the detail though. A deal being done is one thing, a deal being done that also gets through parliament is another. If Johnson has conceded on a few things too then that may well be likely.

What BS. We could leave with no deal as long as we have the political will to do it, A50 provides for 2 years as a minimum holding period but we have burnt through that. If we want to leave with a deal then we have to do a deal - if you want to call that 'being let out' maybe that illustrates how much stronger there hand is in the negotations and how equally shit our hand is. All of course because we know that any form of leaving is bad for us and less bad for them and the more distance we put between us and them the worse of we are, disproportionatley to any impact on them.
Burn through? Did you miss the AG's advice to parliament that the current Irish Protocol is indefinite with no unilateral means of exit. That was the reason the WA didn't pass the HoC. Your last sentence is simply silly but I'd say that because I'm a leaver believer ;)

Then that's the DUP support down the pan, surely?

Possibly. The DUP seemed to have painted themselves into a corner and may be looking for an off ramp so who knows. Constitutionally the NI will still be in the U.K. so may be that will be enough. The UUP have already started talking about NI being the sacrificial lamb and that the DUP have ‘sold out’.

Honestly I don’t know how it will shake out. A lot will depend on the actual legal text I guess.

It's simply one which enables the all the UK to trade with any other country on its own terms. That isn't possible with the existing WA, the backstop prevents it indefinitely. Whether there are changes afoot we will have to see but if there are it is because the EU and Ireland have calculated that a No Deal exit will happen in 20 days or by next January at the latest.

We already do that ... where the Eu aren't involved

We cannot trade with country on terms better than the Eu because each trade agreement that the Eu negotiates contains a clause that states they cannot offer better terms without also offering the same terms to the Eu ... after all they are the largest trading bloc in the world

the one thing I’ll never understand is willfully making ourselves poorer to take back control of what? But that’s for another time. Just want the deal in the open now so we can all see it, decide if it’s decent enough and move on the next chapter of this omnishambles.

So let me understand.............

You want the Conservatives to tell you the truth?

F*cking no hope ...... its already been reported that 70% of the statements they issue are lies

70 f*cking %

It is no going to happen Georgie boy not now not ever in a million years, as Barnier has said so many time the first thing we would have to do the day after No Deal would be negoitiating a new deal with the EU. In that scenario the EU would hold all of the cards because as has been highlighted in yellow hammer we would be fucked. That is beside the fact we have the Benn Act coming into play on the 19th the EU as they always have done will play this as they always have done perfect diplomacy, no grandstanding, no boasting.
I didn't think so either until a quiver of doubt struck yesterday and we may still both be right listening to the current DUP press release. The unlimited backstop is the EU's key bargaining chip advantage for future trade deals though - without it they will be slugged out in the traditional way with interim arrangements in place to ensure that normal business is transacted in the approved fashion in the meantime.

Who reported that? Maybe that was a lie as well.

EDIT: Why am I getting drawn into such a banal and idiotic conversation. On second though you can fart about in the playground on your own - there's plenty of children to keep you amused.

A sensible take on the situation
