The Labour Party

I’m currently part way through ‘Broken Vows’ the devastatingly critical biography of Blair and New Labour, which I found important to read as I have a long support of that government, as many of you will know and I love to challenge my own beliefs.

One thing I’ve taken away is that Gordon Brown was a petulant and bitter old grump, even in the early days. He never got over Blair once promising him, in the early 90’s, that he’d let Brown “go first” for leader but later changed his mind.

He was letting it affect him almost a decade later and was incredibly unhelpful from the beginning of their government, despite obviously having great ability.

What also surprised me was how vulnerable they were even before Iraq. The government doesn’t have nearly the stability that people realise.

The need to get the media onside is the only way of stopping your movement becoming terminal.

I think it just goes to show that even though I disagree with McDonnell, he’s an entirely reasonable man and a great speaker. The majority of Brits think he’s a communist loon who wants to get rid of the Queen and turn us into the Soviet Union though, due to the media.

Who wrote it?

I will do but I am unusually very heavy-handed and I’ve already spilt water on it, so it won’t be in its best shape but in good enough nick ;-)
No probs pal, when you have finished it let me know and I will send you my address.

I will pick one of my books out to send in return.

Selection of Nottingham East Candidate was fun.

Members required 2 lots of ID to enter along with membership card. Some refusals.

Estimated 600 members attended to see NEC member chairing the hustings heckled by supporters of a woman removed from the shortlist. People's front of Judea group verbally attacking one of the parachuted candidates.

Police called.

Potential legal action threatened over how it was run.

Sometimes we don't fucking help ourselves.

Thanks for spreading the info.

Come back John Heppell, all is forgiven!

The woman who's standing in Nottingham is a local LP lay member. She followed the route taken by AOC. Knocking on doors of all knees and speaking to them individually.

It's going to be a bit harder for her to do that in the whole constituency. But theres plenty of foot soldiers in the CLP willing to help.

The Labour message is all about the grass roots. Training sessions have been geared towards members just getting the confidence to speak to people in the workplaces, pubs etc.

That's the way you beat the media.

Does that include times when he’s talking about “Lynching Tories” or did his Sadistic phase come after this?

One of the fundamental reasons for Blair winning so well was getting Murdoch on his side. On he contrary, Corbyn cannot be bought and he owes the press nothing, hence the way he's treated in the media.

You’re not wrong, well everyone can be bought just in different ways but anyway, even Blair would agree with you about him getting Murdoch on side.

He’s since said it’s something he runs over in his mind, whether it was the right thing to do, all the time.

However he does feel that without the media on side, he wouldn’t have been able to gain such a majority and the positive policies he wanted to implement wouldn’t have become reality.

Now people will criticise him for as long as he’s remembered but there were many positives from his reign as leader.

Considering the **** should be answering war crime charges at The Hague I would’ve thought that’s the last thing that should be on his mind

When did he say this?
It was specifically about Esther McVey but regardless of whether you like the woman or not (I do get that many don’t) his comments were totally inappropriate and he even justified them when asked to explain them ... but you guys keep defending these people... all’s fair in love and war I suppose
