Gary Owen.

I had the pleasure of being in the Legends Lounge on Saturday and recognised Gary Owen as being the mc, I think that's the correct term, he had a microphone anyway and he instilled an effervescent, collective and relaxed mood amongst the patrons, Dennis Tueart and Tommy Booth also had a word on the mike. He told us to be ready for the kick off as some sometimes miss it, I did notice he was straight to the buffet and asking the chef, plate out, well what's on offer for me. Joking aside I remember footage of Man City when he was playing for us and he was a very tidy, cultured and dedicated player for us in midfield and has always sounded effusing and encouraging for Man City when on the radio. A true blue.

Peter Barnes was due to do a night in a bar in Tavira Portugal a couple of days after I was there last January.

I am sure I heard that he or Gary Owen were quite involved in the walking football leagues for the expats in the Algarve. Brian Kilkline also being mentioned....Algarveblue or someone might know if I am talking out of my arse.

Might be out of your arse. Or your nose. Or both.

I also couldn't believe it...couldn't comprehend what was going on.
But I tell you what..I cried when Big Mal got sacked. He probably destroyed our club ..but he was such a big presence ..always talking City Up...to this young teenager..he was a god! The results were incredibly bad...I still shudder when anyone says '"Halifax'" i really do...but there was something about Big Mal.
A man out of time (Elvis Costello)
Completely agree about Halifax, the fucking H word, took me decades to get over, and Shrewsbury

Do you accept that Brian Kilcline was a close proximation of Captain Caveman?

I do indeed he was what used to be known as an agricultural player in some respects of a similar ilk to our own much loved Gerry Gow. Sadly their kind consigned to the history books and old ****s like me boring the youth of today with tales of when football was a mans game and when City getting a draw in a derby or not getting knocked out of a cup by Halifax Shrewsbury Blackpool or Barnsley was something to be rejoiced and celebrated with the kind of unbridled joy that is reserved for winning the League cup these days.....Horse and dog shit, giant puddles a foot deep, seeing swales sat in his throne across in the mainstand, those were the days. (hovis music playing whilst writing post).

Not sure I agree with you, mate. Loved being a City fan then, always have - but the last ten years have been the most enjoyable, by some considerable distance.

Being shit, is pretty shit.

We enjoy our watching our team playing wonderful football, scoring more goals the league has ever seen. They're bitter. Bitterer than anyone ever. Lol

Anyone remembrr Big Mal justifying selling Gary on some interview? Basically saying he didn’t fancy him as a player, which I thought was fair enough. It’s not like he went on to be a world beater. He was a good pro, who can rightly be proud of his career, but he was not top draw.

Mate no doubt it is beyond comparison and in some respects I envy todays match goer in having such a fantastic team to follow. I am mildly miffed that my trips to Wembley to watch City were v Newcastle when I was a bit young to appreciate it or even remember much about the day and then the heart break of Spurs and the gradual decline leading to a spectacular plummett in the seasons that followed, away trips to the swamp usually ended depressingly and come to think of it so did most trips for home games at Maine Road. Yes each time we win a cup there is a tiny bit of regret that I will never see us win at Wembley other than on TV....but those dark days were unforgettable and I would not have missed them for the world.

Oh and not everything regarding City and football in general has changed for the better by any stretch of the imagination.
