Jo Swinson

Her accent confuses me.

Some of the questions I expected her to reply like Vicki Pollard "Yeah..but...no...but...Corbyn..."

The votes for candidates in remain or 2nd ref parties will far out way the votes for leave candidates. But we have the system we have and that means tories are the only party that could get an outright majority.

May got 42% of the vote in 2017. I expect Johnson to do worse and get sub 40 but he could still get a majority of seats.

Lib Dem's could double their votes and get 1 or 2 more seats!
UKIP gained around three times the number of votes that the SNP received, in an election, so if we changed the system,
UKIP should have had over 100 seats.

She’s royally fucked up with the approach to Brexit. Didn’t think it through sufficiently, which is a shame because I think she’s far better on her feet that the **** and the wanker.

Big opportunity missed due to poor tactics. Fuck me, politics in this country is depressing.

Spot on

I agree. Shame because I really like her actually. She seems decent and honest - that being a relative thing in politics of course.

Don't they also propose a penny on income tax, which (and you may find this bizarre. but) I'd actually support. In fact I'd support the basic rate going to 25% in conjunction with an increase in personal allowance to protect those on very low incomes. It's the "You can have all THIS, and YOU won't have to pay for it" which really fucks me off more than anything.

No sympathy for her whatsoever. The idea that you could revoke article 50 and carry on like nothing happened was always going to be divisive and indefensible. The fact they thought this would work to their advantage so were willing to go for it shows them to be totally out of touch with the people they represent. They deserve what they are about to get. The only way forward is to leave, hopefully with a decent FTA which protects the economy, then those who wish to Remain argue to rejoin. The referendum result will have been respected and implemented and we can begin to focus on domestic issues, hopefully leading to a healing of the divisions over time. Anything else leads to more division, more anger, and a prolonging of the misery.

I find it hard to disagree with anything you've posted there, mate.

Other than the impossibility of leaving with any sort of deal.
A deal will take months of negotiation.

Few people care about Brexit anymore. Most people want it over and done with and out of the news, and Johnson's simplistically bullshit "Get Brexit Done" message is hitting home, even though anyone who takes an interest knows that it's a lie and leaving is just the start of years of uncertainty and decline while our inferior trading arrangements with our biggest trading partner is hammered out.
It's a shame that Corbyn and Swinson are both useless and the election winner will be the least disliked leader, with Johnson at -15% against Corbyn's -40% and Swinson's -20%.
ROFL. You clearly don't know any Leavers then.

I'm surprised the simplicity of Swainsons revoke and remain isn't just as effective. Can it possibly be that more folk want to leave than remain?

No - practically all polling shows falling support for brexit.

The lib dems are not getting the votes as it is all about the split and for the vast majority voting Lib Dem would mean getting a tory. There will be millions of reluctant labour voters who would have preferred to vote lib dem but couldn't risk a tory victory over a labour incumbent.

Great post.
The only way Remainers can respect the "Leave" vote is to leave with an FTA that allows us to easily rejoin in future. But no the Westminster bubble decided that wasn't the way to go. Clueless and Cretinous all at the same time.
20% of the Tory vote from the Guake/ Grieve /Hammond anti-democratic Remain tendancy was attracted to vote Lib Dem but June is now on the verge of totally messing that up too by advocating voting Labour to Remain.
Any one who thinks that Tory Remain vote will stay with them if they are supporting Labour is in dreamland. "Vote Lib Dem and Get Labour" will rapidly take hold in their mindset if there is any chance of a Labour win close to polling day and they will return to vote for the Tory party.

So it's not just that her revoke/remain policy isn't as popular as was hoped?

It’s both.

This election is as much about people voting to keep out who they don’t want rather than who they want. It’s an incredibly depressing state of affairs but it is what it is.

That works both ways too, there are conservative remainers that will still vote conservative to not risk labour getting in. She’s right to say their vote has been squeezed. Even if they had a different position on brexit, it wouldn’t really change that. Their best bet is in five years as whoever is in charge through the implementation is going to get a reaction against them. Well, if labour and the tories are under similar style leadership...

And a balls up from our perspective. A stronger LibDem showing in the polls would have helped keep the Marxists out.
Yes - I remain very concerned still - it is just shocking that they are still in with a chance.

How can so many people be fooled?

How can so many people not remember or do the research to understand the 'legacy' that Labour always leave?

Even more worrying, how can so many people - quite a few on here - understand the truth but delude themselves and 'hunger' for a Corbyn/McDonnell (not Labour anymore) victory?

I strongly suspect the main culprits on here are on £6.15 an hour and are just after whatever freebies they can get. Then there's the thickos making up the most of the rest and the one or two champagne socialists. The sort of Tony Robinson or Russel Brand types (Hello @BobKowalski ). Shed loads of money so don't give a toss if they have to pay a lot more.
