When you had muskets and was a new formed country made up of rebels from all over Europe maybe. But right now no chance some redneck twat needs a gun. A trained soldier would blitz them anyway if need be.

To protect against those not associated with the government. You are aware of the principle that personal protection against criminals resides with the individual and not the sole responsibility of the government? That every citizen has the rights to the means to protect oneself from those who would do them harm, be they foreign or domestic?

Jeez it's like you don't even understand what the 2nd Amendment is all about! XD

It's about personal, individual, responsibilty and not to depend or rely upon the government for defence or protection.

Firearms were not solely muskets at the time the 2nd amendment was passed. Rifles, percussion caps, repeating weapons were already commonplace. That's why the distinction says "firearm" not "musket".

Anyone with a basic knowledge of firearm development history would know that. As a government's weapons systems become more advanced, so should the access to those same systems be available to it's citizens. That is the point of the 2nd Amendment, that no government should ever be more heavily armed than it's populous.

No but it certainly helped them. Had the free thinking people of Germany had guns there very well might have been more than one attempt to take his life.
It's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.
I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

Whereas I.. cannot even shoot a .22LR without mountains of paperwork, where I need to provide a "good reason", in which the Government will decide if my reason is good enough, and even then... maybe.
