Because politics are massively polarized in the USA.

There's very, very little room for any candidate to swing the very small undecided vote one way or the other - and if a particular candidate is deemed to be too liberal... well, that candidate cannot possibly win election IMO.

Well, that really depends on how you see the political landscape. I'm open enough to say I'm not supportive of neo-liberal agendas as they leave too many of the downtrodden behind. The top 1% get their shit, the middle get squeezed and the poverty stricken are an afterthought. That's not good enough.

The trio you've named above have taken many of their cues from Progressive thinkers like Sanders and Warren, who's a by-product of Sanders' original position.

I know there's the call for the 'middle ground', but that position is what got #45 in the hot seat in the first place; disillusionment in politicians doing anything for the people.

That said, last night's debate was an eye opener for me. Surprisingly, Klobuchar, Biden and [to some degree] Steyer were very good and clearer than I have witnessed in some time. They steadied their rocky ships.

Warren was better than she had been of late (loved the way she stuck it to Buttigieg!), Sanders was Sanders and even Yang moved his position on, some.

3 middle ground politicians versus 3 (mainly) progressive politicians, last night and the centre did not put them away.

I still think the US citizens are not ready to back a centre ground politician when people want to be paid a living wage/ have better healthcare, but we'll see.

The majority of US citizens would very likely embrace a liberal candidate - endorsing universal health care, a living wage, aggressive action to mitigate global warming, etc.

But the electoral college landscape and extreme polarization among voters means that majority sentiment will not decide the 2020 election. Instead, most states are pre-decided - it doesn't matter who runs, these states will almost certainly go for their party of choice, regardless of who is running.

What matters is the vote in swing states; that is, states where Republican/Democratic sentiment is very closely divided - and voters who might endorse either party are up for grabs. These undecideds sometimes vote Republican, sometimes Democrat. They're middle-of-the-road.

From what I've read/watched... the best path to a Democratic 2020 election win, is a moderate Democratic candidate; a very liberal/progressive candidate might well be favored by most Americans... yet at the same time, such a candidate could easily lose enough support among undecided voters in swing states to forfeit the election.

The swing states are 50-50, right now, yes.

There's still a year to go and lots of things can happen, namely #45 slapping more tariffs on China, further deterioration with N Korea and the economy unraveling. All these things will effect the swing states.

A place to watch.
 
What concerns me is that Nosferatu is openly looking for dirt on Biden. I don't think he's as squeaky clean he's trying to make out he is. Something concrete that isn't a Russian conspiracy theory will be found and this will help Trump fight impeachment and an election.

He should step aside but his own ego (and support from his establishment mates) would rather see him fail than give someone with a shot of winning a chance.

Biden is dirty by proxy and the longer he stays in the race the better the odds are of Trump getting a second term.

Yang has already painted himself into a corner by retracting what he said on M4A.

It's the death knell that has befallen many Dems that have switched position.

Happened to Buttigieg, who has taken a knock since he eased off on the M4A rhetoric, Warren has taken a hit regarding her revision and now Yang has also stepped on that particular landmine.

To his credit, Biden has not changed course, so stays 'reliable' in position held and also Sanders has been unshaken in his belief.

Makes a difference in the opinion of being 'trusted'.

He withdrew from the race in 87 after being caught plagiarising a speech.

Biden has a shady voting record in his early years as a senator. And it wouldn't surprise me if Gulliani finds genuine dirt on him that will justify Trump.

Biden is tainted. He's too proud to withdraw and whilst superdelegates back home why should he?

It may come down to his buddy Obama nominating someone else for him to get the hint.

Btw, don't think I ever forgot about our conversation a few months back! My computer went kaput the week after we talked with all my YEARS of info on policies and other stuff (I picked shit up out of interest if it caught my eye!), so I couldn't be arsed to try and get all that shit back!

It still rankles with me now that I've lost SO much work on that computer!! :(

My personal favorite should he/she be able to win election: Amy Klobuchar.

But, the election is going to be extremely close - I think that Joe Biden stands the best chance at displacing Trump - so I hope he's the nominee in spite of my preference otherwise.
