Didn't hear that quote, but it's certainly the case that the deluded fool has managed to convince herself that there was absolutely nothing wrong with their manifesto nor policiies, it was just that they didn't sell it well enough.

Corbyn was an issue, yes. Also Brexit was an issue, of course. But they need much bigger changes than simply replacing the leader and waiting for Brexit to finish. They need to take a long hard look at what should a modern Labour party represent for working people in the 21st century. And that is not some loony left infatuation with the idea that "the state knows best", and with it silly nonsense like wanting to waste precious resources on completely unnecessary (and pointless) nationalisations. And their failure to recognise and value - in fact no, their complete despising - of successful people and successful businesses.

I think I chimed in and said it is far from clear cut - Labour members are not all hard let and of those that are they are not all ignorant corbynites. Corbynism has a toxic whiff about it as RLB is finding out.

Starmer has just got the backing of Unison. I'm calling it. He has won.

If it's based on what we need, will it not just perpetuate the status quo?

If British people aren't prepared to a certain type of job, the knuckle draggers are still gonna be pissed off there's too many foreign accents to be heard around town.

Exactly - its not a system, its a needless bureaucracy. Under the EU we were entitled to only accept immigrants who had a job. We could have done this in the EU. If your are going to 'crack down' on immigration then you have to put a squeeze on somewhere - Tories are happy to talk it up but wont say where the squeeze is going to hit.

It's an OK system but you have to have allowances to make sure that it's not an excuse to pay fruit-pickers minimum wage rather than paying British workers £10 an hour and depriving them of better employment rights.

It's sad when you see that the current Labour Party seem to be far more in tune with the corporate right on immigration than the working class Britons they're supposed to represent. Minimum wage increases for all doesn't cut it on certain sector-specific issues.

Why would you base your immigration policy on what “knuckle draggers” think?

I totally agree with you.

It does have to be done carefully but ultimately it’s the best policy to have.

Interesting about the Unison backing - I'm a bit out of touch whilst unusually having to do a bit of work for a change ;-)

Good news all round if he wins it. We can get back to sensible politics and debate after these past years of bollocks initiated by Milliband and taken to a whole new level of idiocy by Commie Corbyn and Trotty McDonnell.

Agree. You could even say the problems go back as far as Brown where there was never any consideration as to if the public liked him. It was just his turn. And then Ed Miliband essentially won by called his brother a soft Tory and Labour disappeared down a hard left sink hole that they still haven't climbed out of. Either of Starmer or Philips and its a big step in the right direction. Fingers crossed.

Although RLB £100 at 7/2 is looking very, very tempting. I still think she will win it. No-one thought Milliband would win and ditto Corbyn, but the party members had other ideas. Is there any evidence that they have en-masse, changed their tune? I don't think there is. They are still in their "it was the right policies" coma.

Insulting the electorate hasn't worked but they continue to do it. What is a knuckle-dragger? Why do they dictate policy? Any talk about immigration always comes down to the lowest common denominator, in this instance wiping arses for minimum wage and importing people in instead of offering a decent wage for a job that should be well rewarded.

Well I’d argue the ‘take back control of our borders’ resonated well amongst a substantial number of people and I’d say they’d subsequently expect to see less low skilled foreign workers in their towns. If the points system dictates that fruit pickers are high value as there’s no one here who wants to do it, we’re just continuing with what we’ve got already albeit under a different name. Granted I’m using a bit of a cliche here, but people are going to expect to see some tangible difference on immigration post EU departure

I agree.

I don't think most people (who voted for it) would be happy with "We've taken back control and now under our control we're going to keep it just the same as before".

Fair enough it is an insult, and I’ll be happy to eat humble pie if a points based policy works and people are happy with similar levels of immigration because we need it, but it’s fine now because it’s a new system.
