Yes, and for some people that fits in with their life, but in general it’s not a great thing. I don’t know a great deal about them but I would guess there are families on these contracts that still need to rely on tax and child tax credits to make up their family incomes.
And as Ban-jani and others have pointed out, it is nothing to do with brexit, so why is it being discussed on here that it is when it's been the trend for retail for years?

Sooooo...from 11pm on the 31st his thread is redundant as we leave the EU then. We will need a new one so suggestions for a title please...my opening shot is...

The UK as an independent trading nation
Or nothing changes for at least another year.To discuss what will actually happen next.

To be fair I was the first one to point out it had nothing to do with brexit sometimes discussions digress a little. No big deal.

Partly correct but there is a fundamental change. To date, we have been a member of the EU for decades and we have been negotiating our exit from it. After the 31st we will no longer be a member of the EU and for a maximum of 11 months we will negotiate as a third party to establish if we can agree a mutually beneficial trade deal.

So yes there is a standstill period but it is an entirely different situation.

We've been talking about Brexit before it happened so why not talk about it afterwards? The matchday thread becomes the post-match thread. You don't have to post in it.

Just watching the Concorde programme on BBC Four.

An interesting lesson in British trust and negotiations.

We didn't trust the French so inserted a clause that if one of the countries pulled out, the other had to bear all the costs of development.

Then when the UK wanted to pull out, we couldn't afford to do it!

Well because the 2901 pages of this thread mainly are will we / won't we leave the EU. That debate is settled and we will have left so a new beginning deserves a new thread in my opinion.

They prefer to shut debate down in the interests of democracy

It’s also not the end on the 31st, it’s the beginning of the end.

It isn't a new beginning , we have no idea what the new beginning will look like for another year at least. Maybe not quite as new as I suspect you’d like.

It is a new beginning as we will be out of the EU regardless of if there is a trade agreement or not. The Remain train has hit the buffers so it's no longer a topic for debate. What will be debated is should / will the two sides agree a trade deal or not.

So nothing like what the debate has been for most of the 2901 pages to date..

Edit: now 2902

It’s a new beginning for the UK as we transition from rule makers to rule takers. How we adapt and cope with that will be interesting.

I'm not sure how you separate posts in that way. A lot of my posts were about whether we had a trade deal that was anything like what the Leave campaign said there would be. If the Tories hadn't either (a) lied about that before the vote or (b) reneged on it straight after the vote (one must be true) then I might not have bothered reminding people for three years what sort of trade deal we'd been promised and weren't getting. A lot of MB's posts would have been redundant too. Even Mcfc1632's Tutorials of Negotiation wouldn't have been needed, as we'd have had a deal much sooner.

It's all been about trade agreements - and, here we go with same old unmet challenge, what Leaver ever said we'd leave on WTO terms without a trade agreement?

I could cope with losing and even the triumphalism - if it weren't for the bloody revisionism.

I fear we will have the "yet another new bloody brexit thread" posted ad infinitum for the rest of our lives.
