It’s a bit difficult to go for the throat when you’re effectively a sheep up against a wolf.

Although ironically the one area where the UK has some clout is in Financial Services so we’ll probably end up with a reasonable deal in that area and get shat on elsewhere, which will disproportionately negatively impact the more Brexit leaning areas.
I think that’s when things will start getting a bit difficult for the government. They’re in a honeymoon period, but that’s unlikely to last long. Once the initial “euphoria” (for Leavers, at least) of exiting the EU subsides, the inevitable reality that things aren’t actually going to improve for the vast majority of people, and quite probably will get worse, will kick in. Suspect the Tories won’t be too concerned, as they have five unobstructed years in power ahead of them, but disillusionment with the political system is only likely to grow.

"Sometime during the night on Friday, the union flag will be quietly removed from outside the European Parliament buildings in Strasbourg and Brussels, and from the UK representation in Brussels, which will be renamed in due course."

The "I can't believe it's not the UK representation to the EU" office.

I thought it would be useful to remind everybody that at 23:00:01 on 31st January, there will be 40 free trade deals signed. And that's a promise! A promise made by the people that brought you #Brexit.

Liam Fox promises to sign 40 free trade deals the 'second after' Brexit
The UK Trade Secretary made the claim during a speech to Conservative members at party's conference in Manchester on Sunday night.

Nobody should revel in that. The world should be getting smaller with all we have available ro us these days and not bigger

The reality is that post Brexit the amount of trade agreed to be covered by FTAs will reduce from 63% to 8% of all trade. We have a lot of catching up to do during the next 11 months.

It wasn't irrational numbnuts.

I WAS a supporter of the EU, until I became interested in how the system they had worked, where it was heading, what it was planning, how they regarded the United Kingdom and it's citizens, and what future they saw for the EU and it's place in the world.

I am a child of the EU, born in it, grew up in it, taught to respect it and to love it, and knew nothing before it. So all talk of Empire, Rule Britannia and other bullshit is wasted on me. I am of the generation that saw the EU for what it was, not indoctrinated to continue to believe there was nothing better, like you. I don't care about Farage or his campaigners, I never did. My decision was based on my own personal opinion of what the EU was striving towards, from their own mouths and their own words. And I didn't like it.

And you cannot fathom that, can you. That someone who was once supportive of the EU turned against it from their own opinion. No wonder your "side" keeps losing every major political debate. You refuse to accept that not everyone is a sheep like you and should just "accept" the EU as infallible.
Really good post

like the disillusionment with the political system that people felt when parliament refused to implement a democratic vote of the United kingdom and do all they can to block it.

so much disillusion was felt in the political system by many life long labour voters that they decided the only thing they could do was vote Conservative for the first time in their lives and give a very poor Tory government an 80 plus majority.

that’s what disillusionment can do.

Again, I will enjoy my bendy bananas, blue passports, Rule Britannia, Union Jack and what ever other stereotypical leaver bashing bullshit you tend to churn out.

In reality, i'll look at how trade deal talks progress with the EU, other European nations, the United States, former Commonwealth partners etc and "endure" a period of calm in British politics now that the dummy chuckers have been silenced.

I do lament buying all that Spam though.
Fuck - but Friday seems to have been a great day to have been too busy to come on here.

Well done once again for the level of patience and calm you have demonstrated in all these exchanges I have read as catching up - especially in the face of what seems to have been a concerted attempt to bait you.

What the exchange did evidence though is the extent that some on here will go to in their desperation and denial to insist that all Leavers are ignorant and that the future of the UK is doomed

I don't want to leave but have been resigned to it since 24/6/16. The biggest issue was the fucking nonsensical delay that revealed what a fucking joke it was.

I am glad you are elated and I hope the consequences for you are not as bad as they will be for most.
I don't believe you;-)

Or at least, if that is true you have a very strange way of purporting yourself on here

I didn’t say that people weren’t already disillusioned with the political system, merely that it’s only likely to grow.

I mean. Do you think anyone actually cares about this point you keep making over and over and over and over again ???

why do you keep repeating this constantly.
Well I do not know about everybody - but you seem to clearly take it to heart - so that is at least one person

For anyone who is interested in fish see the first 5 mins...........then think what happens when we leave....when we have queues at the ferry crossings with fresh fish on board.. when we have tariffs..when we have 4 inshore fisheries protection vessels to protect ALL our coastline from illegal immigrants and encroaching foreign fishing vessels...

I did not bother to watch but I can glean the content from your post - so a quick question to you......

What do you suggest could be the/a solution? or what actions do you think could/should be taken?

We should join a Europe wide trade bloc that eliminates trade barriers and creates a single market allowing countries within that bloc to sell goods and services across borders as if they didn’t exist. We should also create a common currency to eliminate unnecessary currency exchanges and transactions and also allow people to move and work freely within that market.

Just a thought.
