Please, help with my research.

Ellie, one question you don’t ask that might be relevant is whether we are less likely to buy from the sponsor of a rival. I personally am marginally more likely to let who sponsors City influence my buying decisions- eg I looked into the cost of flying to Australia with Etihad but the dates didn’t work. I am however far less likely to buy the products of anyone that sponsors united or Liverpool. (I specifically refused to buy Sharp products when they sponsored the rags, and if I ever have the need to buy a tractor in the Ukraine I will make sure I don’t buy from the rags official Ukrainian tractor partner.) So the positive pull of someone that sponsors city is far less than the repulsion of someone that sponsors United.

edit, since reading the entire thread I see I’m not alone in this!

I use Etihad over Emirates when flying east.
As someone said it works in the opposite for sure re other teams sponsors eg sharp sponsoring Utd in the old days most city fans I know would never buy sharp.

I dumped Emirates for Etihad shortly after the takeover, blind loyalty.

Done
Also I would never buy anything from the sponsors if the rags or dippers.
Never bought any sharp products and Nivea is a no no nowadays

Hello, my name is Ellie and I am a third year student at Manchester Metropolitan University, studying Events Management. I am undertaking research for my undergraduate dissertation.

The title of my dissertation is: ‘A critical analysis of the affect sponsorship has on consumer buying decision: A case study of Manchester City football fans and their level of engagement with the teams sponsors.’

As part of this research, I am trying to figure out whether a fan feels a business who sponsors Manchester City impacts their decision to buy a product.

As a means to do this I have created a questionnaire which Ric has kindly allowed me to place on Bluemoon. The questionnaire has 18 questions with 15 of those simply tick boxes. The other 3 questions are short answer questions, not requiring much more than a sentence. It should only take 2 or 3 minutes to complete and is anonymous.

I would be really grateful if as many City fans as possible would click on the link and answer the questions: https://mmu.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/sponsor-research-etihad-stadium

As an aside, I was lucky enough to go to my first football match on Sunday – City v Fulham (with an Everton fan – sorry!)

Will complete now. FWIW I chucked out all my Nivea products and refuse to buy anything made by them but it’s about as far as my engagement with sponsors goes these days. Coincidentally switched to Sure, who sponsor us.

On a side note (and without sounding like a dick), the title should say effect, not affect.

Done this survey but it didn't ask me about boycotting products of rivals. I would never buy anything from anyone who sponsored United or Liverpool FC and I suspect nor would most fans. It's why in the past Celtic and Rangers have often done shared sponsor deals with breweries to try and keep both sets of fans on board.

I once refused a Chevrolet hire car in the States.

Done. All the best. Would be interesting to see your results when you’ve analysed them all

Actually I may have lied on my survey, We got nexen tyres on the wife's car last year, they were the same price as the other random mid range offerings so we went for them as had heard of them via the sleep sponsorship on the numerous city shirts knocking about the house ;-)
