The thing that appears to be killing people is the Cytokine Storm that comes from the virus. This requires immunosuppressive drugs (like corticosteroids), but they must be finely balanced with the drugs needed to bolster the immune system to fight the actual underlying virus.

These diseases are sneaky fuckers! One drug helps fight the virus, but the virus has created such respiratory distress that you need steroids to stop you from basically drowning in the disease! Those steroids undermine the drugs needed to fight the original virus.

It’s a fucking tightrope walk once you start to get really sick from this virus.

It won't seem real until somebody you know gets it.
I had my first reality check this morning. I was in Toolstation, and a chinese women in front of me had a face mask on.
It's the first time i've seen somebody wearing one (since the outbreak) that isn't on TV.
Overhearing her conversation with the sales assistant, she was ordering every face mask the shop had.
She was explaining that she was visiting every shop she could, to get as many masks as they had. She said she was going to send them to relatives in China.
I can only assume this is due to a shortage of masks and rising (profiteering?) prices.

Now i've read that some (east) asian people have been suffering racism already. With people refusing to sit near them, or openly referring to coronavirus.
Does wearing a mask only serve to make matters worse, or is it prudent and a safe thing to do?
If i'm honest, it did make me wonder was it for her protection or mine.
A few more local cases may see us all wearing one. (assuming they haven't all been bought up!)
