Wheres the 50% figure from?
It was quoted on ITV news at 10. I didn't mis-hear it - I had to rewind because I was so shocked.

As for ICU patients, Borrelli specified, there are 733, 83 more than yesterday. Of these 440 are in Lombardy, which had an increase in 41 cases in one day. There are instead 4,316 patients with hospitalized symptoms and 2,936 those in home isolation.'Today the connection with the regions continued for the necessary equipment, and we have started delivering 325 respiratory fans for intensive and subintensive therapy, the distribution starts with Lombardy', added Borrelli. 'The average age of ICU patients, hospitalized in critical conditions, is very high in Italy', observed the head of the infectious diseases department of the ISS, Giannni Rezza.

I agree we should stop fans going, stick all the games on tv and be done with it,i can see why the authorities are hesitating but we are an island, once here it is only going to get worse
The games should all be cancelled.
Why would it be right to protect the public but not the players and staff?

I do not get how the science isn’t saying “mitigate your risk now, not when you reach an arbitrary number when it’s too late”.

Playing devil's advocate for a moment (v. difficult tbh) I think the logic is that we are in this for the long haul, and the concern is that whatever measures we introduce, the public will get bored with it and cimpliance will drop off over time. And therefore best not to introduce measures too soon or we won't be doing the right things later on when the situation is tons worse.

Tenuous justification I know.

That is a good question ,CL games should stop but i don't see why they can't play against teams here, they are no more at risk than they woud be not playing, adjustments could be made with them not hugging each other whch they appear to a lot around the ground as well as in games

Bang on we are an island so must be easier to contain ,
www.worlddometers.info/Coronavirus/
This is a very good site to keep track on everything
Updates regularly no bull shit just the facts
Scroll down to the bottom it gives a world table of who's containing and who’s not .
Take care everyone I’ve spoken to two doctors today just keep washing your hands was their message.

That matches the 10% quoted on ITV. Slightly reassuring they are all old people. (Sorry old people!) But what I mean is hopefully the UK will fare better with our slightly younger demographic.

i can see that if the government are not to close events down and get this virus slowing then we may see vigilante groups closing their villages down in rural areas, may not even stop there streets could end up blocked

Of course they’d be more at risk.
The virus spreads from human to human by touch or through air, as I’m sure you know.
The incubation period can be as long as 24 days.
That means a player could have the virus and pass it on to all their teammates before showing signs themselves.

The adjustments needed, which the authorities are ignoring, is that people shouldn’t be in close proximity to others and contacts should be reduced to a minimum.
Football is not essential , it is a pastime, therefore should be cancelled forthwith.

I take the point but it’s still surely better to do that earlier in the lifecycle. That’s the only way you can then prove it’s worth doing if people subsequently stop doing it and cases grow again.

Like I said, it's tenuous.

And hard to imagine how we could - for example - start going to Premier League games again if doing so was illegal and there weren't any.

The "waning compliance" argument really does not hold up to scrutiny IMO.

But unless the players stay home seperately and their wifes don't work or the kids don't go to school then they are still at risk,i would be happy to have the season cancelled but that won't happen, football is essential to the clubs/broadcasters/FA/Prem etc so it will continue here,it is however a passtime for the fans so they would be better off not going,i am a case in point

This situation now is why you shouldn't have hospitals being over 80% occupied, never mind over 100% occupied as most of ours are every day. We spend billions on a nuclear deterrent that will never be used and is obviously useless against this or any other virus but we won’t spend to have spare capacity in the health service because it’s ‘not efficient’.
10 years of austerity, of cutting NHS funding, social care funding and cutting public health funding might not have been the best option after all. Who’d have thought it?

I accept the logic of this tbf.

Is the rate of growth slowing? We need more than two days of 'flat' data.
