I hate to agree with such a stark outlook, but it’s looking more and more like it will be this way with each day that passes. Football and other sports will be judged as frivolous in the coming weeks as we work through everything we can to limit the impacts.
The Chinese have a lot to answer for.

This could quite easily come to pass. We are still in the very early days of this virus, especially in the West, infection rates can be expected to keep rising, possibly doubling.

It will likely be six months at the least before anything starts to calm down, if we are already at the point of considering closing things down, especially gatherings of people, and things are likely to get worse before getting better, I don't see how this season can finish and you could argue it would be silly to try.

As tempting as it is to be a doom-monger, South Korea and China have already passed their peak, and the UK's is expected within 2 weeks and last a few weeks. After that things are going to get a lot more manageable.

This is awful. Do people realise what the consequences could actually be? This could mean that Liverpool don't get the two wins they need for their first ever PL title. And even if they do .... they won't be allowed a parade through streets rammed with the greatest supporters in the world ... or even if they are allowed a parade ... no one will be allowed to go. Doesn't your heart bleed for the poor scousers!

Now I am worried ;)

Although things are moving quickly there is worse to come over the next 10 days, so I expect tighter controls. Following this the task will be to stop a wider spread outside of the peak and tail already described in China (with draconian measures put in place let’s not forget). To curtail travel and spread of THIS and any other mutations of COVID-19 you just wouldn’t be surprised to see the cancellation of events where large movements of people are concerned especially cross border.

If correctly managed yes I would agree

Fair enough i didnt think it was that much and it will be interesting to see if contractually no football means the tv media can not pay monies owed?

No doubt another court case.

Im pretty sure it’ll be in the contract - ie what happens if there’s no football. Probably written with a major weather issue in mind but the principle will stand and I’d assume the contractual position will be - no game no fee. But with a caveat that the broadcaster pays at a later date should the games be played. The problem of course is we cram so much in that it’s looking like the season may not get completed.

There is also the impact this will have on clubs that borrow against the TV income at the beginning of the season.....

And football doesn't only exist for the elite clubs, the EFL could be decimated after a few weeks without revenue.

Good point. I think many clubs are surviving hand to mouth. I think there are a number of clubs on the brink and this could flush them out very quickly. The EFL needs a complete restructure- probably back to a regional set up but they’ve been too busy burying their heads in the sand as club after club call in the administrators.

There won't be a transfer window IMO. Insurers and medicals won't happen.

Why would there be? No player is going to be uprooting themselves and family at such a time.

I'll say it again, football and such will become irrelevant.

People may suggest I am overstating the threats being posed, but I don't think we will be back watching a football game anywhere until next year when the plug is pulled.

Concentrate on your fellow human being and having money just to keep going.

When this is all over/a vaccine developed, it could be a year from now.
It is quite funny to see some people’s reactions on social media. The possibility of being shocked out of their routine is incomprehensible. We’ve all seen the “more people die from seasonal flu” and “idiots stocking up on loo roll” posts. The three stages of truth are 1, ridicule 2, violent opposition and 3, acceptance.

We now have Italian doctors telling us how bad it is. Even the dismissive types can only muster a “I’ll be alright as I’ve no underlying health issues” attitude. I just hope they’ve have no elderly or ill relatives as these people who refuse to consider others will cause the deaths.

Don’t panic. Look after yourself and you look after others. Hand hygiene is not a new concept .

Well certainly our owner made a few quid when he helped Barclays Bank during the banking crisis so perhaps he may get an email or two from various quarters.

United take £4m a game in matchday revenue, you sure about that?

Sky aren't going to pay out TV revenue if there is nothing to broadcast.

Same goes for BT and the Champions League.

People need to start realising it isn't about empty stadiums anymore, it is about empty pitches.
Didn’t know rags are the top club in debt . See how they cope now .

No players. No telly. You cannot force players to play, be treated any differently to the rest of society.

They are also rich enough to sit it out at home.

I assume the players contracts are water tight and so long as they fulfill basic commitments- like be available to play - whatever happens they get paid. It’ll be interesting to see whether sponsors stump up. They effectively buy advertising space on shirts etc which is gonna disappear from TV screens potentially.

I like your optimism but as a life long City fan I struggle with it. I think my concern is that the virus has already started to mutate so we may see several strands of it across Europe. Also in Western Europe there is so much inter country travel that locking this down the way the Chinese did just isn’t going to be possible. I hate to say it but I think this virus is with us for a protracted period and unfortunately the sick and the elderly may be in for a traumatic time. On a positive- a process like this might - Just might help us focus on what is really important- people - and help us forget some of the other divisions in society.

Or maybe, they'll prove to have been right all along and this apocolyptic hysteria will have all been for nothing. Not that any of those wetting themselves will ever admit it.

The last sentence is common decency and normal hygiene at any time.

If you are cash rich in a crisis - the worlds your oyster. You can pick off the bargains in the fire sale
