There have been more than 3,000 deaths in China, the epicentre of the outbreak.

Panic buying is one of those things where there are enough irrational people that it makes the irrational thing rational. If you don't panic buy then when you want to buy something normally, it's no longer available. But by making that now sensible decision to stock up, you become one of the idiots contributing to the problem.

I have noticed that in hotter countries the growth has certainly been lower. Singapore was once near the top of the list but is now below most European countries. Thailand a week or two ago had about the same number as the UK but hasn't grown at anything like the same rate. There aren't many countries with presently high temperatures near the top of the table, so it may well help reduce the rate of transmission.

As I say, the cases just rose from 3 new cases on each of the last two days, to 238 new cases today.

Kuwait has just banned all flights in and out and shops and business and public places are to closed for two weeks.

So don’t get your hopes up just yet. It could just be that ‘warmer’ countries are just behind the curve. Two weeks ago, Italy only had a handful of cases don’t forget.

And there is one of the issues that exists with controlling spread in an non-authoritarian nation and why we will never be able to take the same measures as China.

(Note: I am in no way advocating for authoritarian government or condoning all of the actions China took, even in this situation, just pointing out why believing we could take similar measures, if needed, was folly.)
