Fucking hilarious isn't it? Yesterday we had people in the Arsenal postponed thread saying that we'd been stitched up by Arsenal, and now this is a deliberate ploy by Real Madrid to fuck us over. Yep, nothing to do with a global pandemic and it's all just a conspiracy against City ffs!

Coronavirus: Real Madrid footballers in quarantine leads to La Liga suspension

Spanish top flight La Liga has been suspended for "at least the next two rounds of matches" as a result of the Real Madrid squad going into quarantine because of coronavirus.

It comes after a Real Madrid basketball player, who shares training facilities with the La Liga club, tested positive for the virus.

Real are due to play at Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday.


The Spanish club has closed the facilities of its sports city.

"The recommendation has been made to quarantine both the basketball first team and the football first team, given that the two squads share facilities in Ciudad Real Madrid," a Real statement said.

La Liga said it will "revaluate" the situation following the completion of quarantine "in the affected clubs and other possible situations that may arise."

Real, who are second in La Liga, were due to host Eibar on Friday, and had already cancelled all pre-match media duties.

Then have a smaller preseason and follow it on with the new seasons fixtures? A lot of vested interests with prize money, promotion and relegation will be pushed from the clubs to just abandon the season and just start a fresh.

what makes you think it will be over in weeks?
Even if it has peaked that’s still a lot of people to catch it and burden the health service.

Obviously I have misunderstood that interpretation of lockdown. I always thought lockdown would mean having to stay indoors, closing borders etc.

Not really. Liverpool are champions. The competition that was in play was the Champions League, and now Liverpool are out, we're the favourites on the verge of putting out Real Madrid.

The side with most to lose is City.

We know that in the Italian towns where Europe's outbreak took hold, the virus has followed a similar trajectory that it followed in China and South Korea. It's entirely reasonable to expect similar patterns across every human population providing those populations behave similarly.
 
OK everything is postponed , cancelled, banned. When we all come out of hiding, it'll still be around and will spread again because not enough of us caught it and developed antibodies first time round. These things hang around for years/ permanently , better off taking the simple precautions and letting it run its course. Hard facts of life
