COVID-19 — Coronavirus

I keep comparing the impact to that of Flu.

given that annually between 300,000 and 600,000 people die of flu I think it's quite reasonable to consider the impact it has when discussing COVID-19.
And many people, including most credible experts and officials from most reputable health organisations, have said that is an invalid (if not dangerously negligent) comparison to make.

I think the best way to realise the danger is to think of how many colds you get compared to how many flus you get. I've had bad flu once in my life but get a cold regularly. There is no cure for the common cold and that is part of the coronavirus family. So it's contagious like a cold but deadly like a flu - a bad mix.

That is a fairly good simple way to consider the situation.

Although, I would add that based on current WHO and CDC guidance, this novel coronavirus is magnitudes more deadly than Influenza A and B.

Which is one of the many reasons the global health organisations are trying to get governments to undertake concerted responses to the outbreak.

It really is amazing to think nearly every major global/regional heath organisation are sounding the alarm about the need to take significant action to contain/slow transmission of COVID-19 without first looking to see if overall mortality rates will be impacted by the virus itself and related conditions.

It is incompetence of a scale not seen by humanity since ABBA won Eurovision
.

I can’t believe our government is listening to so called “experts” over the father of one of our best ever players.

Whoa, now you over stepping the mark

Number of tests have risen which is the reason for the sharp increase in confirmed cases. Actual % of positive cases gone down since yesterday I believe.

  • 135 new cases in Sweden, which announced that testing for Covid-19 will ceaseunless you are hospitalized or belong to one of the risk groups. Even if you report corona-like symptoms

  • the above from worldometer.

  • I understand that’s why the numbers in japan have slowed as they are simply not testing people anymore. You won’t get tested if you present symptoms , they only test you when you need treatment. Everyone else stay home and get over it.
