Boris will have the very best in this country on this type of thing advising him, so whats to say they wont be right? I know id trust the countries top scientists over anyone on here, despite some clearly thinking they know more.

I’m not a fan of Boris or Tories but the political point scoring on this is not needed - whatever he does or says he will get pillared , he has a huge team around him including the highest levels in medical care, economics etc who are guiding the decisions - he hasn’t just woke up and thought what to do.

Doesn’t matter mate, the “fuck the Tories” brigade on Bluemoon are saying it’s bollocks, even before he’s started.

My concern is exactly this sort of polarised reaction - everything these days is tailored to cultural preferences. Seriously. Look at his shirt! 100% Nigel Farage. He's doing the country gent explaining things at a very basic waffley level. Cosmopolitan metropoles will feel talked down to, the more relaxed crowd will lap it up and feel safe.

FWIW the 'squash the peak' thing was always the way ahead, some of us are scratching our heads why it's taken us a while to get here and why some of the advice appears so limited. Rather than the 'preserve the economy' argument - it's hard for me to escape the notion that they are spoon feeding, not risking upsetting people of a certain mindset, at the risk of letting that peak get higher, earlier than it need if we were a more decisive now. How cynical am I? My current impression is that when it reaches bedlam, then we'll get the show of power. And lots of people will be satisfied with that, than they would be with what looks logical - a much more pre-cautionary approach that impacts on us now. This is pretty much the psychology of modern politics, and we see it playing out dozens of times, every single day. From Brexit, to Budgets, it's always that same dichotomy - the liberal desire for caution and anxious responses, or the 'post-conservative' desire to be told nothing is wrong and positive response to 'strong measures' from 'the big man' at a later date.

You’re talking bollocks mate - listen to the experts they’ve hired.

The opposition are doing what you’re doing - point scoring

No fucker is doing anything.

Why you want to make it party political I don't know.

They are talking about the science and projections, not from what has been happening across the globe which shows that predicting it and second guessing has been a fail method already.

It is lunacy to just say carry on as the science says it's better to wait.

By the way the useful on my other post was supposed to be useless, now changed as all parties have been crap over this

BREAKINGCases in Italy jump to more than 15,000
The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Italy has risen to 15,113 from 12,462 on Wednesday, officials say.

i used to work for big pharma, what the ex glaxo guy is saying he would not be saying if he was addressing a glaxo conference, the government are in the not saying too much as t o not panic the country

I think the best way to realise the danger is to think of how many colds you get compared to how many flus you get. I've had bad flu once in my life but get a cold regularly. There is no cure for the common cold and that is part of the coronavirus family. So it's contagious like a cold but deadly like a flu - a bad mix.
*At least ten times more deadly.

(for accuracy)

The only thing which is a bit wishy washy is the advice about those with mild conditions stay at home.

It’s the winter season lots of people have mild conditions . So does that mean we can all claim on our travel insurance then if we are due to go on holiday and have the sniffles . Easter coming up loads have holidays booked.

they have nobody to argue with on the political threads anymore so they have appeared here !!!

Boris could find a cure tomorrow and he would still have got it wrong.
Or he couldn’t and make the situation worse and we’d still have people saying he called it right.

Politics has a huge role to play in this though as governments are the ones deciding how to cope. It will be interesting to see which country ends up dealing with it the best in terms of infection and death rates.

Which is part of their job to be fair. We are already out of toilet roll and pasta how much more panic can we take! He did say its likely 10k are infected, as bad as it is I think it is right not to panic as the fallout once this has passed will end up doing more damage than the virus itself.

They are literally explaining why they’re waiting to put the measures in and that it’s all about timing but people don’t care to listen.
