Burnley (h) postponed

We have quite an old fan base. Surely this is the worst environment with this amount of people for them.

the game should be called off

I'll be going, who knows when we'll get the chance to watch live football again? This virus may not reach it's peak in this country until the Summer. Let the experts decide whether it should go ahead or not.

At least we all have a choice whether to go or not.

Maybe we shouldn't have a choice, maybe the authorities should intervene?

Most folk won't be killed by the virus, most folk will just get mild symptoms and some won't even know that they've ever had it, but they mooch about knowing that they're young enough and fit enough to shrug it off and they become part of the expansion of the virus as they touch and spread it and breath it out into the lungs of those near them.
They're all right Jack but what they do in their ignorance might as well be murder.
They give it to people they've never met, they take it home to their families, they kill their mum's and dad's with it (and other people's mum's and dad's), but they're ok, they didn't feel a thing.

Meanwhile, the hospitals (that are poorly equipped), can't contend with the expansion of cases so there aren't enough lung support machines and they can't oxygenate blood for enough people to keep them living, so doctors are forced to make heartbreaking decisions and turn people away to die.

Next salute and we're in a mass grave scenario because mortuaries are overwhelmed.

Maybe those who have a choice shouldn't have a choice or at least should do the decent thing and not become part of the problem.

Whether they stop fans attending or not - decent folk won't attend as a point of principle.

Just saying like.

But by that logic decent folk won't go to work or the supermarket or anywhere at all.

You are not generally sat right next to people for a couple of hours in any of these places. But its all about minimizing your chances of getting the virus. Work and shopping are things you need to do, football is for enjoyment (but not always)

Declare all results null and void and stop the season.
Seems to be the only rational option now if players are getting it.
Clearly this will not prove popular in some quarters.
Your health is your wealth. That comes first. Stop football for the foreseeable future to see how this plays out. Postpone the Euros until 2021 then continue the Premier League and Champions League through the summer if things improve.

I think most people will get this at some point. People vulnerable to this are just as at risk as they are too influenza. A lot of older people have Flu jabs. This helps to keep hospital attendance to the minimum during times of heavy infection rates.
I feel the difference being that the rate of it spreading is the actual biggest threat. This will cause an overload to hospitals.
I think the government actually wants people to go about their daily business until told otherwise. Essential food/medicine manufacturing still needs to go ahead for example.
While attending a sports event in itself isn't deemed essential, it is normal behaviour that the spread of the virus (controls) will be based on.
This allows some form of control at the speed it spreads. People taking steps to self isolate (without being told too) can ruin carefully laid plans.
We could all self isolate now, and the infection rate would drop. Only to come back with a vengeance when we "need" to go about our daily duties because we are starving and nobody has been to work to keep the economy going.
Overreacting by saying people who don't isolate are technical murders is just pathetic.
Everybody on this forum will have passed the Flu virus onto somebody else who then passed onto somebody else, who eventually passed it onto somebody vulnerable who then died.
We know they won't get it totally right, but just follow the official advice given. If the game is on, go if you want too. (unless you are showing signs obviously!)

Overreacting can be just as bad as underreacting...

Seems like the empty seat spotters will have a field day Saturday, but the tossers will just highlight the Etihad no doubt.

You might need to go to work - but shouldn't if you can work from home.
You need to go shopping - but you can try going off peak / using anti-virus gels on your hands etc.
You don't need to go scream little droplets of lung juice into the air with 50,000 other people.

More sensibly; we're following Italy's model (about 4 weeks behind).
Following an unacceptable and increasing number of deaths, they've now closed schools, colleges, all shops except essential shops (and then limiting how many in store at any one time), they've stopped travel between towns and closed bars and restaurants. They've done this to save lives because seeing their old folk die made them realise that some things are more important than saving up for that holiday in Spain or buying that new car or seeing that football match.
We'll get to that point but that point should be now when we've had 10 die . . why wait for 1000 or 10,000 or 1,000,000.

The more we mingle the more this spreads. If things go as they are and 80% of our population get this in about 1 year (and hospitals are overwhelmed) then we could have death rates as high as 5 or 6 %. Our population is circa 68 million, 80% of that is 54.4 million, if 6% die then that's 3.26 million deaths. That's more than we lost in the 2nd world war in both real and comparative terms.
If we slow the expansion so that it doesn't hit too hard before vaccines come in (in about 12 to 18 months time), and if health services are not over-whelmed so that we have sufficient lung support machines and can oxygenate enough blood for supportive transfusions. then we may keep the death rate down to say 1%.
That would be a death toll of just under 540,000.
That would be 2,720,000 lives saved.

That bit of rough math inspires me to do all that I can to hunker down for a while. No pubs, no round to mates houses, no going up to Whitby for the weekend, no getting into crowds at concerts or football games, no going round to see my mum (but lots of calls on the phone - she understands completely). It's horrible but it could be more horrible so I'm sticking with it for the sake of my mum and yours.

At this juncture there's no such thing as over-reacting to it. Everything that we don't do kills people.
You need to understand that we don't have a vaccine for this and we wont have a vaccine for this for 12 to 18 months, so it's like influenza with no vaccine = mass deaths.
Do you want a generation of kids to grow up without knowing their grandparents?

I for one shall be attending, lounging on all the luxury of all the empty seats will mean I am at least 2m away from anyone else all afternoon.
I shall also fill my boots with stolen toilet paper.

If anyone wants to know what a fast spreading pandemic without vaccine does then google this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_flu

That was 1918 when most people walked to work, and travel (cars, buses, trains, planes) was only a fraction of what it is now, and populations and population density was far lower.

Whatever you believe about this, you must appreciate that if we all have to make a few changes (and in doing so we have a crap year, oh poor us!) and if that only saves a handful of lives then that's worth it eh?
But we could actually save millions and every one of them is worth the effort.

Conversely, we could all act like selfish twats and make matters worse.

If you knew me then you'd know that I've lost a lot of kin in horrible situations, but that's not taught me to hate, it's taught me to really appreciate how important people are. Our families, our friends, our neighbours. Your family, your friends, your neighbours. Your mum, your dad.
Look after them eh?
