I assume you think the Chief Medical Officer is trying to protect the economy rather than protect the public too then.
 
Absolute cluster fuck this. A mixture of China trying to keep it quiet when it first kicked off, selfish twats who still want to go on holiday or public events when they suspect they may have it and governments hoping it will just go away by itself instead of getting tough on it. If this thing mutates as viruses like to do and it turns into something even nastier it could wipe the lot of us out.

It’s going to tank anyhow would be better if all the healthy workers carry on which will protect the economy to a certain degree and those who don’t have to go out stay in. Generally those getting the virus will not die from it and those most at risk are less likely to catch it. It seems by taking the stance they have the economy will hold up a bit more for a few weeks and then will completely nosedive when lock down happens. And more will die in the meantime. Smacks of short termism to me.

I am saying what actually happens is they discuss things in great detail and the govt decides on the final action so the chief medical officer may think stronger action should be taken but they have to speak with one voice. Give me a single reason outside of economics why all sports and social gatherings shouldn’t be stopped and how this would lead to more deaths?
 
Given that the strategy is to allow pretty much everyone to catch this, it would almost be better to get it now before the hospitals become overrun.
