Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Seems a bit weird that they're considering just a short postponement as all the information coming out from the government yesterday is that we're still 4 weeks or more away from hitting peak. If nothing else we should be doing what Scotland are doing and freeing up medical and other emergency service staff that are needed to provide the necessary support to all major events.

RT @Carra23: Inevitable the @premierleague @EFL will be suspended today. You can’t start next season until this one finishes when ever that is. No title winners? Who goes in the @ChampionsLeague next season??Leeds WBA +1 miss out on PL??? 3 clubs in Prem stay up.

So is it ok for players to spread this between themselves and end with potential deaths, just so we can complete a season.

Clubs and leagues have a duty of care to their players, if voiding the season helps protect players and staff then so be it. The clock is reset to the end of last season.

First thing to do is cancel the Euros in the summer. That immediately gives the leagues across Europe a bit of time to play with. Suspend everything until the end of April with a view to seeing where we are in a months time. Hopefully for everyone's sake things are clearer by then and if it is still as serious as it is now then we will have bigger concerns and cancelling everything wont seem quite as drastic and will barely raise a ripple of publicity.
We’ve already got a good idea where we will be at the end of April. Still 4-8 weeks from the peak

Strangely enough I am in the camp of finding a way to finish the season somehow or other and whenever that is.

Yes that means Liverpool will be champions but so what? Would it really feel better if the whole season was scrapped?

You have to take the rough with the smooth and the fact is our league campaign has been very rough so it’s not a case of us being denied the chance to be champions.

In my mind, you don't fuck with the lives of people simply to play sport

They do deserve it, but when I think of the whole FFP situation with them possibly in with the rest of the cartel trying to fuck us over and the hacking of our computers, I would be fucking delighted to see them cry.

That would seem the best solution to me. Season still gets to finish - and clubs get a chance to pick up some revenue streams in the summer. The only tournament impacted by moving Euro 2020 to next year is the new World Club Championship - that could either be delayed or carry on without players competing in Euro Championships. If a club is seriously impacted by that they can loan players for tournament.
