I think according to the WHO, that is what China did. They traced down contacts of those testing positive very quickly and isolated them. This was one of the main recommendations coming from the WHO report.
As did Singapore I believe, using their secret intelligence and tracking data.
They’ve had very few deaths.
South Korea took it a step further and it *appears* to have had a substantially positive impact on transmission, infection rates, severe cases rates, and mortality rates there.

Of course, one of the reasons I agreed with @The Light Was Yellow Sir about effectively randomised testing (which is near to what South Korea has setup) not being practical is that we have not and currently cannot produce or procure a sufficient supply of test kits to allow for that sort of scale, which is why I think we need to focus on ramping up to undertake comprehensive, continual testing of potentially impacted cohorts.

That is, of course, going to be a challenge in of itself and not one I am sure the government is working toward right now.

And it's what the UK has been doing but when they were testing more people they were returning thousands of negatives which doesn't help. With more targeted testing they will get more positives and this will allow them to contact the right people and isolate them.
Returning thousands of negatives is helpful.

That’s the nature of testing — not only the positives are helpful. It’s quite literally a part of why South Korea’s strategy has seemingly been so successful.

But I’ve not seen any evidence that we have scaled testing to the levels of what I have been describing — I am happy to see a link or two to reputable sources that state otherwise, though.

You need to cite a source for that because it is not the case.

they are pushing for 60% of people to get it asap, all this not doing it now but at the right time is not protecting the vulnerable now, they accept many people will lose their loved on before their time, bojo,by delaying and talking quite frankly bollocks about the right time is condeming the vulnerable to death,no amount of selective clips is going to change that

they said yesterday mass gatherings are fine, that was taken out of their hands last night thank fuck

don't go on a cruise rif you are over 70 they said yesterday

mixed messages

they are not using the same plan from WHO who insist stopping the spread is needed now and they are very concerned about inaction on that front

our government want heard immunity asap, that will mean losing large numbers of vulnerable now

This whole thing is fucking exhausting. I work in telecoms and i have wall 2 wall meetings for the foreseeable future in providing emergency at home solutions to large corporations that were too slow to plan ahead.
Just be thankful it’s not a war.

Not when you have finite resources in terms of manpower and time.
That’s always the case, so I am not sure why that is a argument against a fundamentally true fact that testing is extremely helpful in pandemics, regardless if it returns many positive or negative results.

And I have spoken to why targeted testing of potentially impacted cohorts should be our focus because of our current lack of scaling.

And it's what the UK has been doing but when they were testing more people they were returning thousands of negatives which doesn't help. With more targeted testing they will get more positives and this will allow them to contact the right people and isolate them.
Has the UK been doing that though? I haven't heard or seen any evidence to demonstrate that.

Germany:
- football suspended
- most schools and kindergardens closed
- Berlin clubs, bars and pubs closed from next midweek, restaurants remain open
- case counts won't be validated from now on, as numbers rise and effort would be too high
- regional care homes closed for visitors

Trump to declare national emergency and a financial package later.

German gov directly orders 10,000 ventilators at German medical company Draeger,
a very unconventional move, to be produced over many months.
Biggest order in Draeger's history.

Karen, if they were "pushing for 60% to get it asap" why would they tell anyone with new symptoms to stay at home for 7 days?
like i say mixed messages, they are going a different way to other countries, they are accepting that they can't stop people getting it ,the WHO say put measures in now to stop the spread whilst our gov and experts are saying we have measures but only at the right time not now, they are relying on individuals to do their bit, they should be making us by cancelling sport and large events ,they said it was fine as they are mostly open air with no mention at all about people getting there and back,it is a nonsense

The last 2 days have seen ALARMING increases in the UK. We've jumped from daily increases in the 15% to 20% range to yesterday which was +28% and today +35%.

I hope to god these are outliers. because if they are not, then I agree we would be into millions infected in 2 or 3 weeks or less.
The good news is that we won’t know we are into the millions as there won’t have been millions tested by then at 10,000 tests a day (the increased rate)!

They have made it clear the elderly and infirm are acceptable losses, there is no testing of them unless they are taken to hospital with serious new respiratory symptoms, what i will keep an eye out for is the winter death figures when they are released,if they are massively up but the coronavirus cause of death is still low then it would suggest that the recording of deaths from the virus is way off

London marathon cancelled
Could they risk a whistleblower going to the media? If you work in a care home and people were dying from the virus but not being counted wouldn’t you kick up a stink?

He is a right ****, isn’t he?

I am waiting for Klopp to now give an interview saying basically the same.
He actually said that they should just take the ‘average points’ and multiply by the total games and then award them for the season. He’s an absolute ****, and no mistake.
Also heard a cracker on sky news. “The fact the a fit young footballer like Hudson-Odoi has caught the virus means we should all worry”. Ffs.
