Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Cancelled here in Ireland. Supposed to be going to The Who on Wednesday. Tickets will be valid if concert is rescheduled at a later date.

The practicality of it is not only the 3 Arena but the tram (LUAS as it’s called here) journey down to it is crammed for every concert.

I travel an hour from work back into Dublin on this LUAS and all last week, at the last two stops before I get off crowds of youngsters packed on every evening for concerts further down at the 3 Arena. So many people that I would struggle to get off at my stop.

I had already decided that I would start to work from home before the country decided to take these measures. I’m glad our parliament decided to take action.

I fear though that we are in for a rough few weeks with those returning from Cheltenham. The number of cases is going to sharply increase.

People need to get over missing football or concerts or a normal social life. We’re in a delay phase.
I’m sure the clue is in the name. We’re only trying to delay the spread. Ease the impact on health services. Hopefully buy time for vaccine research.
We need to collectively do what’s best for all. Starting with your own family.

The Who can wait.

The who are playing in Dublin but it's behind closed doors. The atmosphere will be shit though

If the season can’t be completed by the end of June then it will have to be abandoned. That’s the date when many players contracts run until. They can’t be forced to sign new contracts so some teams may lose 40% of their squads.

Privately, Premier League clubs already believe there is no chance of top-flight football resuming on April 4th. A senior executive insisted they expected games to resume in May "at the earliest" and that it was "laughable" to consider April 4th for a reboot

Brighton & Hove Albion chief executive, Paul Barber, questioned the wisdom of suspending Premier League matches only until the start of next month

Chatting to a board member of a lower league club and a worry they have if there’s a prolonged suspension e.g. 6 months+ is that fans fall out of their habit of going to the football and discover better ways to spend their time

That was said on talk shite, however very few will leave a clubs without a contract with another, bar those who don't get an offer and get paid for July as notice. Those being release would surely accept a month extension, as their next club will be lower wages. So it will be churn as players move clubs early at the worst.

A number of clubs have issued digital thermometers to security manning entrances to training grounds as a precaution to guard against coronavirus. Temperatures of players, staff and visitors are taken, with any whose reading is above guidelines being denied entry

Premier League officials are under increasing pressure to cancel the entire season after announcing a three-week shutdown due to coronavirus. An emergency meeting of the 20 shareholder clubs will be held next week

Liverpool are still likely to be crowned Premier League champions, even if the coronavirus crisis causes the season to be abandoned. A senior club executive revealed on Friday night that there was little opposition to awarding Jurgen Klopp’s team the title

@TeleFootball

Says the dipper official

can't be done without deciding all the other places and relegation, unless they invent a new rule just for them....who would be surprised by that?

Could it be our decision?

As the only club that could otherwise win the title, we have a legitimate reason for them not to receive it.

Would we agree, I certainly hope not!!

If the dippers are gifted a title they haven't even won by the premier league then i'm gonna find it hard to come back next year. Makes a mockery out of the game and all the fans.

We pay thousands each year to watch our team and now they want to change the rules right near the end of the game to make sure their precious liverpool aren't humiliated.

Between this and the scandalous way VAR has been introduced this season will live in infamy. Absolutely shameful.

Only to people who don't realise that to the superich, the elite, the top percentage, we are nonentities. We exist to keep profit and services for them running, nothing else.

I’m sure the Treasury and Dominic Cummings have already calculated the significant savings that can be achieved from a major cull of the over 75s.

All staff at my school were checked throughout the day using a digital thermometer. Lots of nervous laughter but nobody, thus far, hit the "go home" criterion. I really couldn't give a fuck about this season. This thing subsumes it totally.
