Anyway, I’m off playing golf and drinking for a few days in a remote village, fuck all better to do.

Hopefully there will be some positive news when I return to civilisation.

Isn't Ramsbottom already a remote village out of civilisation ;-)

If you still live there( cannot remember tbf)

True true, and yes I do live here.

However, where I am off to is seriously remote - 8 of us so should be a laugh and get away from this shit for a few days.

Not sure if this Twitter thread has already been posted on here, but it seems to give a good explanation of the UK approach:

Read that then looked up the author, again a pscychologist looking at the strategy from that angle, I still don't agree it is the right course and we should trust medical science over psycholgical and predictive methods.

No bog roll again at Aldi
Was in Aldi this morning and they had none the went into Home Bargains next door to buy some logs and they had some, 18 rolls per pack.
An old woman picked up 5 packs. Fucking hell if there’s just her on her own they would last her approximately 20 months!
At least she’ll go to meet her maker with a clean arse.

Enjoy, hopefully when you will return home and it won't be like a cross between day of the triffids and 28 days later

Was off to southern Spain on Tuesday for a week, but just had a call from the travel company to say it was cancelled after Spain declared a total shutdown.

Ah well. Glad I wasn't already there and quarantined or unable to get back. At least I'll get a refund.

Anyone regular gym members thinking of staying away?
The gym has been my salvation over the past few months and is tied into my current wellbeing (at least steadying it). Used to run a fair bit but the gym is like a community so I get that from it along with the more obvious benefits.
Was think of going later (I go every day) otherwise I’ll have no other human contact this weekend but I’m reevaluating that now.

That’s no real comfort though. Even narrowing it to over 80s and not over 60, there are 3.2 million over 80 in the UK. If 60% contract COVID-19 (it could be higher), that’s 1.92 million cases in that age group and the death rate is about 15% for them. So almost 300k deaths just over 80 years of age. More of course if more than 60% get it.
Naught for your comfort maybe, plenty for those assailed by wildly inaccurate speculation from the WHO et al. Why do you suppose 60% of over 80s will catch the virus btw? Whitty also says the MR is unlikely to reach 10% even in that most vulnerable age group - why add half as much again? It's bogus stats like yours that predicted 260,000 UK deaths in 2009 from swine flu, turned out to be 216.

On this bus people are sitting every second seat and some waited for the next one rather than it get full

With that in mind maybe it would be good for stagecoach and the others to put on extra buses on routes that regulararly get overcrowded.

Jist for the time being

there’s definitely an unusual vibe in the air. More distance between people (and less of them). The jokes and bravado have condensed into a ‘not really sure how to compute all this’.

I was having the same debate with myself yesterday. I ended up going and was pleased to see little tables with blue roll and sanitiser spray everywhere and every single person in there used it to wipe down what they had been using. Fair play to them. If it wasnt that clean I think I would have swerved it for a while. It is significantly quieter than usual there too, which is helpful in terms of cleanliness. Im the same as you, ive been 4 times a week to the gym for nearly 30yrs. Id go crazy if that wasnt possible I think. That said Im going for a pint today, and soon.

I get Stagecoach buses every weekday and they are fucking hanging! They look like they have NEVER been cleaned.

The single decker ones aren’t too bad but I get on/off at the end of the line and nobody ever gets on to give them a clean before they set off on their route again.

But the top deck of the double deckers, fuck me, they’re filthy! Every one I’ve been on have had a line of dirt/scum along the edge at the bottom and the seats are ridiculously dirty. But I sit up there because fewer people get on the top deck, so I get all the windows open and at least breathe some fresh air.

I’ve bought those throwaway plastic gloves and some flu face masks for my bus journeys next week.

Have all airlines cancelled flights to Spain or just jet2? My folks are due to fly back to Ibiza us Barca on Monday with Ryanair and still looks like they are flying.
