Can you explain to us how allowing incoming flights from Italy and Spain unchecked, has helped to delay the spread?

Or allowing Cheltenham to go ahead? People would not have watched it in the pub, if the event was not on.

Countless activities have been allowed and measures not taken. Opportunities to limit spread, ignored. They may have said the strategy was to delay and flatten the curve, but what is clear is that the actions have not been commensurate with that at all.

It seems plain to me that the plan has been quite deliberately to allow the virus to spread with this ludicrous idea that herd immunity is the solution. And that we're now doing one enormous fucking U-turn having been called out left right and centre about what a shit strategy it was.

I am no fan of the Government but they have been consistent in wanting to delay the peak. Yes I would have liked checks on people coming from Northern Italy etc but that has happened (probably because of Government’s misguided lassoes fairs approach). That’s a middle miles from saying the Government is sacrificing our old for this notion of herd immunity.

Regarding Cheltenham, how do you know what these punters would have done with the time they had taken off work etc. They might have gone shopping into their towns on busy public transport or gone to the pub. They might have even gone to the gym or a lower league football game.

On a wider point than your post, there seems some notion that our our country will rediscover the blitz spirit. Really, does that include the people who asked me to keep quiet about a scammer on this forum so they could try to reclaim tickets for matches they had been “let down” for. I helped plenty of people out with tickets who had been scammed but none of those who said,” please keep quiet until we get our money back” I reported the scammer anyway. Blitz spirit lol.

their blind supporters are doing the same. 2 days ago they were going to the lengths to explain us how brilliant herd immunity strategy is for this one and now suddenly they are repeating the government's mantra how it was never even the plan. God, how I hate political fanatics, the ignore button came from Paradise.

Tell me how doing very little is likely to delay the spread more than say, doing what every other country is doing in restricting gatherings and closing bars etc?

we are moving towards what other countries are doing who have been dealing with the virus for longer. I did state that we may well be trying to close the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Are they genuinely confident in the food supply chain, or are they saying this purely because saying otherwise will multiply the panic buying?

Since when have you been interested in politics, you wouldn’t know borris Johnson from Adam Johnson:)

You are addressing somebody who was thrown out of Parliament well before the hunt saboteurs lol.

Btw that Matt Hancock does look like he’s overrated by his job as Minister for Health. He wasn’t exactly inspiring when he was Minister for Skills.

To any of you on here who think the government has a coherent, well-thought out and lowest risk plan, and that it is sticking to this plan, please can you tell me why TODAY, weeks after we saw this coming, Matt Hancock is on national television appealing to any and every manufacturer of ventilators, to ramp up production, prioritise product and to supply as many as they possibly can "No number is too high, we will buy all of them".

Today.

Does that sound even vaguely like everything is under control??? Why has that call not been made weeks or even MONTHS ago. If no-nothings like me could spot this Tsunami coming weeks ago, what on earth has the government been playing at. Germany have 4x the numbers of ICU beds we have, and have already been trying to get thousands more.

I despair I am afraid, I really do. It is clear that the government took an enormous gamble and the penny has dropped that it has failed.

can people stop fucking bickering, every fucking thread its the same.

anyway on to my point,i work at the airport,as the days go on more and more flights are getting cancelled,if this carries on and we all get "layed off" will we be paid , or is it just tough shit?

Why has Germany got 4,649 cases but only 9 deaths?

Two things spring to mind:

1) They may be testing a lot more people than we are, we may actually have more cases than they do.

2) The virus has spread differently so far with more older people here infected to date. Either by random chance, or due to difference in interactions in the two countries.

I can see the daily death rates being in 3 figures by next Sunday, if Italy has double the amount of intensive care beds we have there will be some horrible decisions to be made by frontline staff in the nhs about who to treat and who to let die. It’s a very surreal slow car crash that’s in progress.
