It was much more fun when all we had to worry about was Laporte's recovery from injury. Let's hope this emergency will be a wake-up call for all of us. It's a time to stick together.
can people stop fucking bickering, every fucking thread its the same.
anyway on to my point,i work at the airport,as the days go on more and more flights are getting cancelled,if this carries on and we all get "layed off" will we be paid , or is it just tough shit?
OK, perhaps they have to be fair.
But Hancock making an open appeal on national television, at this late hour, does not spell measured, planned and under control, does it. Suddenly we've decided we need to appeal to all and sundry because the penny has dropped that we are going have nowhere near enough capacity. This was inevitable. Those silly graphs with the flattened curve *under* the NHS capacity was a lie or incompetent, one or the other. We were never going to be able to meet demand unless we clamped down HARD from day 1 to stop the spread.
From an economic point of view if we don't have to treat pensioners and a virus kills just them off he is correct.Matt Hancock has written the next stage of the government plan in the telegraph
Behind a pay wall ffs.
Just publish the information online for all
Also the the telegraph? The paper whose editor said a culling of the elderly from covid19 is from an economic side not a bad thing
Just watched Matt Hancock on Sophy Ridge, wouldn't deny the new measures coming in wil include powers of arrst to suspected covid19 sufferers, forcing schools to remain open, reviewing nursing home lockdowns and possibly lowering requirements to work in one so staffing levels can stay current.
Denied they are using herd immunity as a method.
South Korea uses hydrochloroquine phosphate and zinc in slowing the virus.
This is the most hopeful thing I’ve read about this pandemic.
It needs a whole lot more media coverage.
Not a vaccine, but it weakens the virus to cure.

The Government have known this for years and certainly since this blew up in China in January. So this is a pathetically late response.

This is merely an extension of the way certain Trusts operate their limited resources.
Currently certain blood test indicators for say cancer have an apparently abnormal "normal" range before treatment is given. Effectively saving short term money by delaying preventative to hoping to cure when it develops.
And they want their advice to be coherent. They are each making it up as they go along.Patrick Vallance, govt’s chief scientific officer, two days ago:
"Our aim is to try to reduce the peak, broaden the peak, not suppress it completely; also, because the vast majority of people get a mild illness, to build up some kind of herd immunity"

Why has Germany got 4,649 cases but only 9 deaths?
To be fair I think the message the professor wanted to spread was the opposite. Many younger people seem not to care about the virus or its risk for the elderly just because it doesn't affect them personally, so highlighting that statistic could make them realise that this situation concerns everyone and could have them take the advice given by authorities more seriously.that doesn't excuse either, the most vulnerable are the elderly and those with underlying serious conditions and undermining the public focus on protecting this key group by selective sensationalist reporting is reprehensible.
I don't know about Tesco- I'll take your word for it but by last Wednesday (and the week before) all the others were booked up for several days ahead in Stockport at least. It would be an excellent idea to reserve slots for customers in vulnerable groups - existing and new. Let's hope the main online providers will find a way to prioritize deliveries for those who need them most. Uber and Deliveroo will also be called upon to supply those in quarantine apparently. No they haven't you could order last wednesday for delivery friday on tescos as I was gonna do it expecting my work to close, as it hasn't I just went instead as tbf I don't need a home delivery and using up a slot when I was passing the shops on the way home was unecessary. If healthy people are booking out slots leaving those that need them most is a worry and worth discussing why do you want to shut down any conversation you don't like.
Yes the other Scandinavian countries are following the UK and Sweden according to info posted earlier by @TCIB. I'm afraid the only huge question mark is over you if you think the UK is led by loonies or it is acceptable to recycle alarmist and discredited misinformation about the situation in France.

Was due to take the family to London next weekend (planned on taking my lad to Chelsea away before it got rearranged/cancelled) but not sure if it's a good idea now. Can't get refunds for the train or hotel (or theatre tickets for the Sat night) so it'd leave me out of pocket but don't know if we want to be travelling around on the tube, in a busy theatre etc. Or is that an over the top reaction - should we just carry on as planned?
NHS doctor on Sky News now slating Hancock for not realising the shortage of ventilators 2 months ago, especially considering she had highlighted the shortage in December even before this crisis. And people want us to have faith in the government?
Some posters have assumed that “herd immunity” is the Government’s strategy when that is to delay the spread of the virus so that our health services can cope with it. Herd immunity could be an eventual bi product of delaying the large scale spread of the virus. As the virus spreads our strategy is becoming more like several other nations. This may well be closing the stable Door after the horse has bolted (compared with eg how China are managing the virus) but for all we know our strategy might be appropriate for us, eg we tend not to be very good at being told what to do. Our communities probably wouldn’t have taken to self isolation until we had plenty of cases of our own.
