Blues in Failsworth

We are all ex Failsworth , all Blues ! we lived at first on Frank St then moved over to Ogden Rd near St Mary’s, my Uncle Tommy lived on Westminster Rd , he’s since passed away , his Lad Tony also a Big Blue I think still lives in the area, our kid Sean now lives in Royton ,
This reminds me of "hospital" talk when you start talking to the bloke in the next bed

Exactly lad. Even further away than Hyde centre. No more entitled to be a blue than the Failsworth/Owdum lads ;)

When I was a 'lad' (as you put it) Failsworth was very much within the Manchester boundary. It only became part of the Oldham Metropolitan Borough with the 1974 boundary changes. Those of my generation who were brought up in Failsworth always considered ourselves proper Mancunians. "Oldhamers / Yonners " were people from Hollinwood onwards. Us Failsworth lads were very much entitled to be Blue.

Anyone living in failsworth has a Manchester accent. Anyone living in Oldham has a Oldham accent, and there lies the clue. When i lived in failsworth, anyone from oldham was known as biffo. (Big ignorant fucker from Oldham)

Have a read back through the thread. I never started the “lad” expression and was defending the Failsworth/Oldham residents as being just as entitled to be blues as say Foden from Stockport or Hatton from Hyde.

Anyway a blue is a blue. Have a good weekend.

Made me piss the BIFFO comment. I’m Salford born and bred but briefly attended school in Oldham mid 80’s (long story).....my school merged with one from the Failsworth area it was funny seeing the Failsworth kids turn up with their mild scally accents and 70% blues. Bit of a conundrum for all.

One other thing that puzzles me though, is it a ‘muffin’ in Failsworth?

Apologies. Sometimes posts don't come across on the page in the way they're intended. As you say, a Blue is a Blue. Cheers.

Absolutely. I was brought up in Failsworth and it was a muffin. I now live in Cumbria and IMHO it's still a muffin. All day long.

Definitely Muffin. Anyone remember the band Chip Muffin and not to forget Parrot (infamous locally).

Damn and blast - it was barm in Stretford where I lived, but then what can you expect from a rag area!
Thank goodness my wife is from Failsworth to put me right.

Ogden Road, thats where I live. Short stroll to the Millgate, nice in summer in the beer garden.
As for City and utd fans, as I have said before its pretty much 50/50 however a lot of reds from moston come into Failsworth to watch the raggies in the pubs on Oldham Road.

We lived at number 6 for years , some family friends live there now , one of my bros used to go in the Millgate , I was always around Hollinwood , when I first moved to Failsworth around 65’ most of the lads at Senior Boys were Reds,
