COVID-19 — Coronavirus

This is the most hope-inspiring post I have seen since this whole nightmare started, thank-you!

In particular, "Since lockdowns result in exponentially decreasing numbers of cases, a comparatively short amount of time can be sufficient to achieve pathogen extinction, after which relaxing restrictions can be done without resurgence. Since the exponential decay is highly sensitive to the interventions made by both government and social action, simulating their effects is less helpful than the advice to “go all out” and refine the effort over time with improved tracing, testing, and other protocols."

I am not saying this is true or even likely. But it must surely be *possible*. If we can shut enough people in for a short period of time, there is a possibility that the infections could peter out. And if not to zero, then to a level which low enough that we can use monitoring and isolation of individuals/groups/clusters, to stop it spreading and rising up again. LIKE WE SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE. The Chinese showed us the way and sadly, we ignored it. But there is hope at least that we could still beat this without huge loss of life.
I’m still sticking with my prediction from weeks ago that we will go into lockdown, with schools shut, from Friday this week and hope that 4 weeks including the Easter break is enough to slow this monster down.

NHS England is to suspend all non-urgent surgery for three months from 15 April in a bid to free up staff and beds to deal with the coronavirus outbreak.

The health service announced plans to cancel all routine surgery and send as many patients as possible home, with the aim of freeing up a third of the 100,000 hospital beds in England.

Sir Simon Stevens, the head of NHS England, said the goal was to try and stop the healthcare system becoming overwhelmed during a potential surge of COVID-19 cases

But added that emergency admissions, cancer treatment and other clinically urgent care would continue as normal

NHS advice for coronavirus patient on ibuprofen

Latest NHS advice states there is "currently no strong evidence that ibuprofen can make coronavirus (COVID-19) worse".

"But until we have more information, take paracetamol to treat the symptoms of coronavirus, unless your doctor has told you paracetamol is not suitable for you," it adds.

"If you are already taking ibuprofen or another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory on the advice of a doctor, do not stop taking it without checking first

Clearly she didn't get the memo that we need to stick together and look out for each other.
I think an issue here is it isn't clear if people are buying just for themselves or others too. I've been picking up a bit extra every now and then because my elderly mother just doesn't have the room to store food or provisions (no freezer) and is not preparing at all. Easy to make a quick assumption, but if that person has been avoiding bulk buying as instructed and then finds there's nothing left it can induce a feeling of real panic, I bet.

Well, there's a new virus emerged in China. Comes from eating bats apparently.

Anyway, it's a type of Coronavirus. The disease it causes is called COVID-19 and it can lead to some pretty nasty complications.

It's now developed into a pandemic (that means it's worldwide and is spread from person to person). You're probably going to catch it, but as long as you're not elderly or have underlying health conditions you should be OK.

Lots of people won't though which is pretty scary.

Oh, and @karen7 has had it, but don't worry she's OK. Sure as hell didn't stop her posting on here.

And to add to that list City are the first team to retain the title with a lower points tally than a team above them at the end of the season - constantly breaking records!

goes missing haha fuck me. We should be in lockdown regardless
I agree but people who get sick pay will be first out the door. And people who desperately need to support their families are going to disregard a cough or sore throat and go to work. This outbreak is a fine reminder that people are fucking selfish and generally behave like cunts

If we started with one case and it grew to exponential growth. How can you say that it won't bounce back without herd immunity?
i haven't read it yet as Ive been watching the select com and Trump(he's not fucking about today).

So their theory is that if you implement full on contact tracing and isolate everyone who could possibly have come into contact with a new patient 0 then you can smother them effectively, especially if you maintain travel and border restrictions like 14 day quarantines and you maintain the "if you have any symptoms then stay at home and you'll get tested" approach.

I just went to put my perscription in at the surgery, the letterbox is completely full so assuming it is the same everywhere put your repeats in early

I went in the chemist next door, they are a smaler chain and have paracetamol but only 16 tabs each and you cant buy anything else with paracetamol in at the same time, they have plenty of paracetamol with codeine in,so get one of those, the biggest pack you can,if you can get the dispersable ones then you can gargle with it as well which will help your throat if it is bad

Online chemists also have paracetamol with codeine left, you will probably get bunged up but small price to pay

No wanking tablets

I suspect behavioral scientists are having a collective power wank right now on the amount of data they are going to scoop up on us in this new world experiment

The side effect of being bunged up from codeine might be quite beneficial at the moment.

Jesus, Sir Patrick Vallance saying they hope to keep the deaths below 20,000. Sounds really grim when you think we're 'only' at 69 deaths.

Testing needs to be ramped up massively, just over 1900 positive tests just isn't even close.
