COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Why didn't Western countries do what the WHO suggested...

Test every single sick person, for those people who test positive test their contacts etc. No one did this despite South Korea doing exactly this and decimating the virus.

We now know that a large amount of people who have the virus never show any symptoms so it was impossible to contain by testing.

It was also impossible to screen people at airports.

The only way to get on top of this is to shut down the entire country and I don't think governments who didn't have a run in with SARS were every going to do that quickly enough.

just watching the bbc news,if the virus dosnt get us then the economy will its fucking collapsing in front of our eyes,it will take years to recover if at all possible

It’s hard to know what it was but we’ve realised the symptoms are the exact same as the Coronavirus.

Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s been here for longer than they said.

Must admit we've wondered about some sort of virus we had. It could have been flu but I did have the flu jab. However, the flu jab does not protect against every strain of flu. I didn't have a fever although it felt like I did but my wife definitely had a high temperature. Wouldn't say either of us got breathless. I'd be more suspicious that it could have been CV19 if my wife had had it first as she had been to Bicester Village but I came down with if first; not that I had any time off work.

I was watching Sky a WHO lady on Skynews earlier who said it was like this with SARS and then suddenly the tide turned and everybody forgot all about it

Weird isn't it? SARS wasn't that long ago and I can remember it was nothing at all like this, not even remotely.

It’s impossible to tell now mate but I reckon there’s a chance some people may have had it prior to Xmas.

Mate of mine In London has it. Has been through 6 days of hell. Just feeling slightly better today.

Well, they had some lesson after being hit by SARS and MERS before.

It seems they were prepared in terms of awareness, test capacity, PPE, staff and a quick strategy.

We were not, now have to rely on our healthcare systems sadly. It's a mess.

We are not even talking about Indonesia, Phillipines or Africa...
Developing a vaccine is nothing more than a cruel race.

Something that always baffles me is this.

After a crisis, there are still the same people who can work, the same people who need products etc.

Summer GCSE and A-level examinations have been cancelled.

What that means has been left very unclear and open ended at the moment.

But what a time for those who were about to sit them. They’ll have to show some good resilience and hope that their future places at college/university are secured still.
Hearing that today and passing a pal of mine today (at a safe distance as we we're both behind the wheel) got me thinking about that. He has 3 kids 2 of which have had CF since birth and what that family has overcome humbles me. The eldest who has spent intermittent periods of her life seriously ill and has had to be shielded as much as possible was due to take her A levels this summer. Her resilience levels mentally cannot be questioned but she's 18 and possibly amongst the most vulnerable physically.
My daughter is a year younger and 18 months away from Uni but is similarly affected as in her 'mocks' this summer despite no longer counting towards an intermediate qualification are influential in terms of applications. After being told yesterday not to go back for the foreseeable a group of them got together today and when providing the obligatory evening taxi service I definitely sensed a level of uncertainty.

Remember the "pound in your pocket" line from Harold.
