Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

They are utter shithouses at the premier league, keep delaying and keep delaying in the hope they can get the scousers over the line. No way is this season re starting, not a cat in hells chance, only going to get worse, and by April 30th this country will be in total and utter meltdown, if it isn't already. Unlucky Liverpool, not to be was it.

It's time the PL hierarchy got real about the situation. The only way the dippers are going to get their hands on that trophy is if they are awarded it. No way will we see another ball being kicked for a long while yet.
Even that would be a very hollow victory, with no public celebration, no trophy parade, and an eternity of having an asterisk behind their name. Couldn't happen to a better set of fans.

If they are resolved to finish the season does that include the Cup or mean only the league?
If it includes the Cup would you take City winning it in exchange for the dippers getting the PL trophy?

Although it would be funny if the season ended and Liverpool didn't get the trophy, they've fully deserved it this year. Regardless of trophies, they'll be lauded as champions for this season. I'd rather they give us the opportunity to finish our games so we can give David Silva a real chance of lifting the Champions League and FA cup in his last year with us.

Not missing football at all. Says enough how I feel about the game as it is now.

I do however pity the fact we can’t give Merlin the goodbye he truly deserves. And that’s pretty much the sole reason I want the league to finish.
Like you say mate give it another month and we'll all have forgotten about football, this could be the death knell of the sport tbqh. People always used to say the bubble will burst one day well maybe it will, but in rather different circumstances.

But the government's own estimates this virus will reach its peak in May/June. How on earth do they expect the season to carry on? Even behind closed doors. Government advices to stay at least 2m apart. Will be good watching football under those rules.

extend-season-indefinitely this is a joke right ?? what about players out of contract in june or who have retired or move on without signing for anybody else like d,silva

the powers at the governing bodies will have to make up there minds up before the 30th april and like other major sporting bodies they have come out and said maybe looking at September at best and the cricket season complete void. and football will need 3 to 4 weeks before and proper games could be played on giving dates much like a new pre-season to get match fit

so please give over EPL in saying extend-season-indefinitely that is never going to happen ? even if we can start again in the summer players will be in limbo

I will admit that I'm greatly missing football. In ways that I'm only becoming aware of now, for more than fifty years the season has structured my winters. Even when I lived out in China and Japan in the early eighties, I glued my ear to the big short wave radio I'd taken out with me to find out how Billy McNeil was doing at steadying the ship (just looked up his record: it was better than I had remembered it) In summer I console myself with cricket, up to a point. I do have strong other interests, but as I say, football has structured life in my winters.
With all the junk stripped aside — the obscene amounts of money now involved, the baleful influence of UEFA, of FIFA, the Great God satellite television (all of these are linked, of course), the growing tendency for the administrators of our clubs to regard us as ‘customers’, whatever the fuck that means, the over-sanitisation of stadia since Heysel and Hillsborough (good and bad points can be argued, of course), the repulsive play acting that is second nature to all top level footballers these days, and now this new work of devilry, VAR — it is still the most simple, accessible and beautiful game that has yet been invented for human beings to come together on this planet. Two jumpers thrown down in a local park to make ‘nets’; or the massed tiers of a great stadium in full cry.
It is a game, and it is more than a game. Yes, I'm missing it.

It'll be fine in our ground though. There's only about 8 of us that actually go games, apparently.

I feel cleansed not listening to screech Carragher or having to look at Kelly Cates fat smug grin Every time she talks or see thick as two short planks michael Owen talk out of his arse or hear mcpointyman's voice suddenly go up 100 octaves when Liverpool score.

It feels refreshing not having to endure any of this utter fuckin torture.

It'd be like a big game of table football...

Get what you’re saying but he’ll get a testimonial and the whole day will be about him so I think it will be more fitting and we all know it’ll be a sell out and a great atmosphere get nige gaz baz and lescott and some more of the old boys place will be rocking

I’m not missing it neither. Not one bit. I didn’t even think about the Real Madrid game on Tuesday, it was only on Wednesday morning that I remembered it would have been that game the night before.

I'm not missing it either, as my previous post alluded to I think the fact we're not being subjected to Liverpool propaganda and Scouse wankfest has made this horrible turn of events have some kind of silver lining.
