“The work of God”?

I don’t believe he was anything more than a local Rabbi but there’s more than enough to suggest he lived.

The video I attached is interesting and gives clarity.

No there isn't. If you have anything that proves it, please let the god botherers know. They love the nine existent **** and gave come up with fuck all, because there is fuck all.

I know it’s 50 mins long but look at the evidence presented in that video I’ve attached mate.

Even if you watch a bit of it.

We often take that someone with less evidence existed, for other historical figures.

for instance who?

i'll give it a watch mate but i feel i've been here before.

just think about it, given what we are led to believe, this is the most important person who ever has lived, yet there is no contempary corroborating evidence for his existence not one

What I never understand about the monotheistic god botherers is this one god stuff.

God is creditted a shitload of times in the old testament as saying there are many gods, but he is the only god to worship.

He also claims his angels loved coming down shagging women and having giants.

Looks to me that only having to sacrifice a lamb and pray to one god rather than 10 seems an easier and lazier option for the people at the time.

Again, watch the video I posted.

I’m not particularly in the mood to argue for a religion I don’t follow but there is more evidence for Jesus than other figures that everyone presumes existed.

Well pick anyone who wasn’t a leader of countries or a senior Roman General at the time.

There’s more evidence for Jesus than 90% of ancient figures, including the likes of Socrates.

I don’t want to continue arguing for a minor point for a religion I don’t believe in lol.

By the hammer of Thor I believe you may very well have a point sir. But religious people are a bit like coronation st fans who believe that the the cast are real, the non coronation st fans know they've succumbed to a form of mass disillusionment but they're oblivious to it.

For example? And do any of them claim to be God?

10 minutes with a Bible or Koran should prove the whole thing false, to a thinking person.

Some yeah haha but that’s my distinction.

I don’t believe he fundamentally was nor anyone for that matter.

There’s less evidence for Socrates existing than Jesus but it doesn’t matter as the teaching doesn’t need divine validation. What is important is the actual philosophy, not who wrote it. Whereas with Jesus if it’s not divine then it’s meaningless.

On the issue of whether Jesus existed or not, the late Maurice Casey’s ‘Jesus: Evidence and Argument or Mythicist Myths?’ might possibly be the book to go for.

Casey was, as far as I know, both a disinterested historian and a New Testament scholar. In other words, not a God squadder.

Yet he was firmly convinced that Jesus existed and wrote the book to demonstrate this.

It is one of many sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read in retirement. However, given my age and the fact that I have high blood pressure, accounts of the ferocious onslaught that Covid-19 subjects its victims to that I have read about on here have made me think that I may possibly not live long enough to get around to it.

But anyway, the last time I looked online, Casey had been embroiled in some highly acrimonious spats with those of a more sceptical persuasion.

A bit of careful Googling may uncover the remnants of that.

My view is that Jesus did exist but getting at what he actually said and did is a nigh on impossible task because many of the Biblical sources have been heavily redacted by their authors (though the Pauline content may have something going for it), and I am not sure how trustworthy non-Christian sources like the Jewish historian Josephus are.

I saw him play?

And as Hitchens said, it doesn't matter if he wasnt a real person. but I think he was, he was in a film I saw.

you're doing a pretty good job ;-)

90% of ancient figures are an irrelevence compared to who jesus was purported to be, as for socrates not sure what you would count as more evidence for jesus
and more signicantly socrates doesn't claim to be the son of god

Similarly with the Shakespeare rumours, which I think are false, that it was several people who wrote it, under that name, it doesn’t really matter as it’s come from someone.

I do think that is false though and Shakespeare definitely existed.

It’s purely about others writing about them and Jesus has more than what’s deemed as acceptable, normally 2 different sources, when historians decide on whether it’s likely someone existed.

As I’ve said, 10 minutes with the bible and even an averagely intelligent person knows it’s crap.

Even the moral aspects

You should give 'The Book of Mormon' a try, you won't last two minutes
