I think the opposite tbh and think its more likely to be person to person contact. If there was a lot getting it through touching doors or surfaces as well as just from other people, then there'd be far higher numbers than there are so far, the infection rate would be absolutely huge.

Indeed.
I dont have any stats to back this up but when you go on holiday, every single one of them smokes, bar none, it's really weird

Have seen some 2 year old stats that suggest Germany has a higher percentage of smokers than UK and Italy.

I would have thought the strength of the immune system is the main issue.

I agree and, as I said, that absolutely has to be the mindset to have. Your analogy though, remember every person that presses the enter button, the chances of it still being on there significantly reduces every time. If not, like I said, the rate would be absolutely huge already.

Yes but I was just using one cashpoint as a simplistic example, if there was ever a study that would be undertaken about transmission points on surfaces I suspect that hand railings, seat bars and door handles on public transport would come out top. Look we will never know but the durability of this virus compared to other viruses surely must have added a significant amount of additional cases which would then have gone on to infect other people through the conventional face to face transmission mode and so and so on ( which wouldn’t have happened otherwise).

I work for a pharmacy at head office and we're classed as key workers for this, we've closed most of the office today. It's not just about having as many people isolating as home as possible for their own benefit, it's to stop those that need to be in the office critical to keeping the pharmacies open as socially distanced as possible too.

I would be amazed if an immediate lock-down was announced tonight, i suspect he will tell us that we need to prepare for a phased lock-down over the next 5-10 days.

There will be a will to keep the manufacturing sector going in order to keep the supply of goods but i can see many non-essential business activities to close as soon as practical.

I suspect tonight may be the time that they give further updates regarding the 1.4 million people at increased risk and the over 70's.

I feel he will stress that he has the military on standby if we as a population can not police ourselves.

No matter what anyone says i still believe the Government still secretly want to foster the Herd Immunity program and as such will still allow plenty of movement.
I’m hoping he announces that we might do what some other European countries (@BosnianBlue) have done and have curfews where nobody can go out between 22:00-06:00 or something similar. Anyone seen out and about other than key workers at that time are fined or even arrested if they’re doing something irresponsible.

Heard a caller with Manchester accent on LBC this morning saying his millionaire bosses are still insisting on him going in

And its not a vital industry

Sadly their are still some employers who you would you would literally have to have your arm hanging off too have a legit reason to stay off.
Some companies need to take a hard look at themselves.

This coming Thursday I am due to play golf with a couple of mates, and this is where I struggle.

We keep getting Emails etc.. going on abaout how it is one of the best things you can do if you want to exercise, large open spaces with no person to person contact, plenty of space to keep your distance and so on. The club have introduced loads of rules to ensure the personal distancing, but as much as i understand this it feels wrong to go.

On the other hand if i don't go I will be working a 6-2 shift along with 20-30 other people in much closer contact and at a much higher risk of catching the virus. The job I do means it is difficult to keep the distance recommended.

The reality is that it would be much safer for myself and everyone else concerned for me to go the the golf than to go to work, something is wrong when that is the case.

The only answer I can see is to shut down everything,

I’m of the opinion that the lock down in Italy may have done more harm than good. The elderly if left alone will pretty quickly get depressed and stressed out leading to a drop in their immunity which the leads to the virus getting a real grip of them, ultimately leading to deaths.

The elderly crave routine and companionship which may have been lacking due to the lockdown.
Only an opinion but could be why so many have died since they went into it without little affect.

So sad. Spain ....https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...us-deaths-rise-steeply?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

.
On Monday, the country’s defence minister, Margarita Robles, said that members of the specialist Military Emergencies Unit had found the corpses as they carried out their duties.

“During some of its visits, the army has seen some totally abandoned elderly people – even some who were dead in their beds,” Robles told the Ana Rosa TV programme.

A lot of the elderley are on their own,it is easy to say there is community help being set up but they have to eat till then, also they are stubborn fuckers, they don't have much life left,i'm sure some are saying i am not going to spend it shut in my home depending on strangers
My dad basically has said it, what can I do, when he's 200 miles away ?

If you play do not touch the flag pins...

Building sites to shut on Thursday.

They are going to have announce something for the self employed before then or someone will knock parliament building down like the travel lodge guy from last year

My brother who lives in Sweden reckons that’s similar to why they’ve not got as strict a set of measures yet as other countries, the Swedish are generally very fit (not just the ladies looks of course..).
Ugly fuckers all blondes, brunette man myself, Russian for me

I agree, that would be the common sense thing to do, unless you are working now that the pubs are shut there are very few reasons to be out between those hours.

Hopefully, one of the longer term impacts of this will be improved hygiene in general, both in terms of just every day life and also those that are ill. The amount of people I see cough or sneeze without a tissue in general, no wonder even the common cold is so.....common!

Laura whatsit on BBC says he may well shut retail down apart from food and essentials like pharmacies and petrol.

Where did you hear that about thursday

Netherlands bit more pessimistic than Liverpool's friends in media and PL. They banned all gatherings up to June 1st.

Worked at home last week due to being ill/ have/ still have symptoms.

my boss is saying I have to come into the office this week. So that means getting on a train and going into a small office with lots of other people

I feel incredibly uncomfortable going in, but don’t feel like I have a choice.
Decisions gonna be made for you shortly mate

Absolutely and half way there in a fortnight, by themselves!

That’s the Dunkirk spirit people bang on about. Ordinary people going above and beyond for the nation.
Yeah, that’s brilliant.

Know of a guy who’s got a chain of pubs in the midlands who was so glad at the government bail out that he offered his 66 staff, including himself, to the NHS, for free until this is over.

There are plenty of great stories among all the selfishness.

I wish my wife was not in the firing line. I’m proud that she is a specialist respiratory nurse, but I’m scared shitless that the pig ignorant masses who believe it’s only killing people who were going to die anyway, will put her life and that of my family at serious risk. People need to wake up quick before it’s too late... if it isn’t already for a lot of folk

You are right to be proud of her, what she is doing at the moment is making the difference between life and death. I am sure you reminder of that but please let her know there are plenty of people out here that who thank her for what she is doing.
