Got an MOT booked on wife’s car for Thursday. Just phoned garage to see if it’s still on as had read Temp Exemption Certs were being issued, and he said the had instruction to only carry out essential work, ie as wife works for NHS her car will be done to keep her moving.
Strange times indeed.

This makes sense to me. They can't close every garage because people need them occasionally.

Can't understand why manufacturers haven't shut shop and let the workers stay at home, unless you make pharmaceutical equipment or can diversify then whatever you make is going nowhere.
If you have a small set up then not going into the scheme where the government pays the wages could run you into dire straits.
It’s not that simple, you’d be amazed how interlinked some of the supply chains are, particularly around food, cleaning products and packaging. I agree that companies should shut and use the government scheme, if this continues then product choice can be reduced to allow others to close too.

This is what a lockdown looks like.

The advice on travelling by Bus, Tram, Underground, Train has to change or these restrictions can never be lifted without the virus coming roaring back. Travellers need to be checked for symptoms before entering bigger interchanges/stations and they have to wear a mask. Not to stop them catching it but to stop them spreading it by reducing their personal virus areosol range to 6 inches rather than 2 yards.
There are reasons why the spread in big Western City's has been so rapid and this is one of them.
The same applies when shopping to be fair. It is difficult to keep two metres apart all the time.
The far east has leant this the hard way during Bird Flu, SARS, Swin Flu etc

Who didnt ? BJ said shut building sites , I thought someone on here said Gove said building sites weren't closing .....so confusing !
I watched Boris last night and assumed this was the lockdown. However, this morning it looks like just a tightening of restrictions on the shops. Construction carries on. Many industries and sectors are carrying on. Are the government content with this? If it takes 48 hours to shut the country down, then I don't mind as it's a huge undertaking, but without a vaccine, and seemingly no commitment to testing (I see no evidence yet), a lockdown is the major weapon we have. It needs to be put in place. The consensus seems to be that a lockdown will turn the epidemic around in 2-3 weeks

London with its tube network and higher population density must be getting a pretty scary place to be. There'll be panic soon.

Well if BJ closes the loopholes during the day I will accept that but my suspicion is they were left open deliberately. Why? Mitigation of the virus.

All along he explains this stupid strategy of gradually pushing down on the virus with more and more pressure as the situation demands. It's a controlled process but its flawed. The sooner you go into total lockdown the better. Step by step is not so good as one giant leap. This is like BJ on the triple jump runway plodding along through the sandpit whilst Jonathan Edwards soars over it.

Maybe, maybe not. Neither you nor I are experts nor can we predict with any certainty the outcome of either direction. What we can probsbly assume, is if people ignore the measures, they won't work, at least as well as the gov expect.

I have my views on it, the herd immunity, the gradual vs snap changes, the level of enforcement required or appropriate, etc etc. Ultimately, those views are of fuck all relevance, i either follow the guidance or i don't (i do/will).

If the government bring about measures, and people follow them, and they don't work, then you can argue they got it wrong. While the public refuse to, then it is us getting it wrong.

If by site you mean building site BJ said building sites are to close. A building site is not essential work

No he didn't. I may of course have missed it, things move fast, but everything ive seen said so far, they remain open.

Sturgeon on the other hand, has somewhat said covered sitea in a loose 'they should close' statement, so we may see differnces in Scotland and England.

Strange indeed. My mot runs out at the end of next month. I can always use my wife’s car for essential shopping so I don’t need to use my car. If the garages are only doing essential work I expect that once the crisis is over there will be a huge backlog of mots to be cleared. As long as they allow some leeway and don’t rush to prosecute people with overdue mots then that’s fine.
