People mite listen when our death rate gets to 500/600 per day (ie italy)
Sadly that's what I think it will have to get to for the penny to drop. It's all there in other countries for our government to see before their very eyes and they are still being ambiguous with the announcements.

Absolutely needs international standards and intervention because it has the capacity to affect us all.

Yep.

I’m still struggling to come to terms with so many lives being changed globally. People losing loved ones, people’s jobs gone, redundancies, pain and suffering... all likely due to a local custom in one area of one country.

I do expect the CCP to come down on these wet markets tough.

Reading on here and online it seems alot of workplaces and their owners/bosses have just stuck two fingers up at the government and said f**k off we will carry on running our companies and who gives a shit about our work force. The government needs to get tough with companies, NOW

Well yes, but there's no point running empty trains. But turning them into packed trains again takes a special sort of idiot.
Wear a mask if you have to travel on public transport. If you have to do so, it minimises the chance of you spreading it to others.
Try buying a mask, very, very difficult to get hold of

Amended... but this is ludicrous no way is a phone shop an essential service.
Can only say if you had teenage kids you would have a totally different opinion you would have civil unrest if the little darlings didn't have their phones ffs

Feel so sorry for the masses of employees who this morning are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Many of them want to do the right thing and want to stay home (if they aren't providing essential services), but greedy companies and CEO's are not closing. It's a choice of either go to work and risk spreading the infection, bringing the infection home or not getting paid.

If the govt wanted none-essential work to stop they would surely have said so. They didn't. They specified retail.

This is the consequence. It all fits their gradualist approach.

Been told i can work from home 2 days a week but have to go into the office the other 3 days.
This coronavirus is weird, it's dodgy on Tuesdays & Wednesdays so i can stay at home then but obviously Monday, Thursday & Friday are virus free.
My company should tell W.H.O as i don't think they realise this breakthrough

Inevitably things are never black and white. If we have a complete and total lockdown then people would be unable to buy food because the food factories and distribution networks would be shut. And what about if your car breaks down and you are a doctor unable to get to work because no-one can get the parts needed to fix it? And the old lady whose central heating broke and had no hot water because there are no replacement pumps?

That said, I think in trying to get right the balance between preventing as many deaths as possible, and on the other hand keeping things running as much as they can, they have consistently erred much too far towards the latter. And some of the decisions like not cancelling Cheltenham for example are inexcusable.

This "exercise once per day" is horseshit as well. People will abuse it greatly.

The other thing they have not done and which needs to be done because it is a HUGE problem, is there are no online delivery slots for most people. So people are forced to go to the supermarket and fight amongst the crowds with people staying nowhere near 2m apart and few wearing masks. This is a breeding ground for infection which will impact upon many.

The government should act immediately to help in any way it can to improve availability of delivery services - e.g. getting the army to do some - and also require the supermarkets to control numbers and safe distances.

Had that very problem last week when our outdoor pump broke - even though it was going to be outdoor our plumber was too frightened to come out in case he got stopped by the police but at the same time as a self employed person was desperate for the money. Two sides to this coin and in these situations seeing as the risk is significantly mitigated by being an outside job I thought I would give him a call. People will underestimate how tricky this gets when a full lockdown which will probably arrive by Thursday happens.

UK government is just pretending they are closing things, only because there is a pressure on them to do so. They deliberately left numerous loopholes for little to change with these "new" rules. They're still up to herd immunity, but in disguise and in speed the public pressure let them.
