I almost dropped dead when I read this. The irony. It's too much to bear. Practically overwhelmed the system!
I think it's you that misses the irony. At this point, the GOP base is advocating for policies more left than the current Dem stance. If it turns out to be popular and the voter likes and trust the GOP on it, why would they return to Biden's policies where paying for your medicare would be the same as the GOP?
The only way to beat the GOP offer would be literally to adopt Sanders' policy!!
I mean here's a guy who
- Voted for Iraq War
- Stood against Anita Hill
- Stood against Roe v Wade
- Called bussing and Affirmative Action ‘racist’ policies
- Voting for the Defense of Marriage Act (before going the other way)
- Told Millennials to ‘give him a break’ because his generation had it worse (news flash Millennials are a growing portion of the Democratic base)
- Saying progressives are too hard on billionaires
- Saying proudly that a paper said he wanted to make all crimes come with the death penalty except jaywalking
- Vote for the 1994 Crime Bill wanting to be tough on crime
- The vote to repeal Glass-Steagall which was a key factor in the Economic Recession
- His launch event was with a Comcast and Blue Cross Executive, not with working Americans
- He drafted the predecessor to the Patriot Act, then voted for the Patriot Act
I agree with this point:
"Biden could beat Trump which means 4–8 years of ‘nice’ politics in the US… but in actuality the American people will not benefit, it will worsen the divide in this nation, and likely lead to the rise of some true populist movements, perhaps real Fascists and real Socialists will start rising up and gaining support. At best the Supreme Court is kept moderate but people will start being driven to more insane politics".
The 'nice' politics where you get to 'ignore the president' does not and will not move the US citizen to a better place and it's something I've been saying for ages. At this point, its like the door being forced against by a few people and when other people realise, actually this bullshit, they will join the push or force another entry to what represents them.
And what you don't want is the joining of the curve where people have enough common ground to work with.
The Hill's 'Rising' co-hosts are a good place to understand where that common ground is.
