All about self interest. City are one of the few clubs that will come through coronavirus relatively unscathed.
The American owned clubs that play in red will be most exposed plus Spurs and Everton from the old big 5. All carry debt and will be disproportionately hit by a reduction in revenue that will hit their cash flow and ability to service their debt.
They exert financial influence over certain other clubs with the threat of taking away their bat and ball to play their own game. They did this when when they stopped sharing gate receipts with away sides to their advantage, originally as a way of help maintaining financial competitiveness. Now they seek to break their own Premier League rules by not declaring the season null and void because it undermines their strategy for a return to the old status quo.
The Champions League had become the means by which the European elite could maintain the status quo. City smashed the Premier League barriers to become the current most successful side and are threatening to do the same in Europe where elements within UEFA have been happy to not apply its own rules but to change them to suit certain parties, especially the cartel clubs.
Interesting that leagues are predicated on a fixed season where teams play each other home and away under the same circumstances. Knockout competitions and cups are predicated on the luck of the draw. We have the situation where we have manipulation by the cartel on the basis of type of competitions undermining the principles of the competitions and the game as a sport in the interests of power and money.
Competition rules have been introduced as a barrier to entry for new clubs but changed to support the interests of the cartel clubs. Changes to the laws of the game have been made that few understand because they are now open to interpretation and corruption. Previously, everyone understood the rules and kids in a park played to the same ones as top professionals. The difference now is the money at the top level and the infuence of commercial interests, gambling and the media.
Football Clubs are not big businesses. Previously they were a great cash generator through gate receipts. Now they are dwarfed by the big gambling companies and others who rely on the high profile of football and its fans. The game may look the same to supporters but owners of the top clubs see an amazing business opportunity, including our own.
The coronavirus has brought into focus the way the top clubs tend to have the biggest debts that have to be serviced. They borrowed to fund their success whilst our owner invested his own money. Their owners expect to take out money as a cash cow whilst ours sought growth through success that would bring returns. Remember the announcement of a 20 year plan at the time of our takeover?
It is incomprehensible that in the middle of a global pandemic with people seriously ill and dying and billions of people around the world, including the UK, under isolation and control that we have a lobby that puts as a priority above this crisis, finishing the 2019-20 season and/or crowning Liverpool as Champions . They would put it as a higher priority than the 2020-21 season competitions. Any such decision will break the of the rules of the competition and destroy any integrity in the game. Players and fans will be merely pawns. The only motive can be there is more at stake and to follow the money.
The situation is that this is the "Cartel Clubs Last Stand" against transformational change in the game where their survival is at stake and they will no longer be able to manipulate to their own ends rather than the interests of the game. There are other parties whose interests lie with the cartel clubs. The obfuscation is overwhelming. If it looks like a conspiracy then it probably is and things are coming to a head.
