Self-employed & Coronavirus

Nada. Zilch. Nothing.

It's going to be a difficult few months.

Just UC which is obviously a lot better for renters rather than mortgage payers, although I can see SMI being modified very soon.

So three months before any money shows up.
Well that's me continuing to work. I thought this money was to allow people to put their health (and others) first by stopping working.
To be fair, i never thought they could do something like this. I just assumed people would have to claim dole or whatever it's called these days. (never claimed any benefits in my life thankfully)
There was bit about people who could work choosing not too wouldn't get any of this money. Again that just confuses me.

Most who ends up needing benefits have a hard luck story,i had my own business for about 8yrs,a nice business that paid the bills,i went out of the door one morning and ended up disabled by the end of the day,i had to let my business go and go on benefits,my point is however you get there it is a massive shock, what you did before doesn't matter,it is not fucking fair,i just hope it changes the culture of hate that dave started off,as i have always said it can happen to anyone, anytime,it might just be the levellor society needs

my heart breaks for everyone in this situation,i know how you feel

I don’t disagree with that Kaz x

80% taxable , so I have 3 months to scrounge about for money ...meanwhile my lovely neighbours who have never paid a penny into the system get their regular couple of grand paid into their bank accounts this week ...maybe I should ask them for a loan ?
Do you know they have never worked and how much they get, what their medical notes say,you are exactly what i mean, you will be getting much more than the average person on benefitsD
It is not great i know,i hope you get something sorted

There are people who abuse the system and those who fall on hard times through no fault of their own.

I as someone who has worked and contributed get lumped in the with the former. People need to stop generalizing about people on benefits. Does my nut in.

To the people in this thread, I hope you get it sorted. Sincerely.
Don’t disagree mate

You can stop working now and claim universal credit

Another bit of info

Anyone who missed the 31 January deadline for filing a tax return will now have four weeks to submit their return in order to not miss out on the scheme

Those who do qualify will be contacted by HMRC and the money will be paid directly into their bank accounts.

For those who are struggling right now, Mr Sunak said self-employed people can now access welfare payments, through Universal Credit, in full

Other government measures will also allow them to access business interruption loans, while self-assessment income tax payments can be deferred until the end of January

The chancellor pointed the very recently self-employed, for whom there is "too much complexity" to cover with the scheme, to government support the welfare system.

Company owners who pay themselves a dividend are not covered.
That’s my Brother-in-law. He pays for everything he, my Sister and the kids have with dividends. He doesn’t know what he’s going to do.

Life isn't fair sometimes, they have to put a number on it though

Chairman of Federation of Small Businesses, Mike Cherry, tells Sky News he "applauds" the scheme and "very, very much welcome this

The government has published full details of the self-employed scheme on its website

Sunak: Self-employed workers who are eligible would get 3 months pay in one go in June when scheme up and running.

Sunak: Govt will pay self-employed a taxable grant of 80% of their average monthly profits over last 3 years - up to £2,500 a month.

Tax officials will contact those who are eligible

fairness has nothing to do with it,this is about getting through the next few months. If someone on 49999 needs it, so does someone on 50001. If someone on 50001 doesn’t need it, neither does someone on 49999. It would have been easy to impose a sliding scale or to reclaim it from higher earners via next year’s tax bill.
