This isn't a case of being careful or not. As part of doing their job they have to meet a bunch of people and eventually they were bound to get it, just like every NHS worker and I dare say every delivery driver, supermarket worker etc. too.

Just have to self-isolate ASAP to stop how much you spread it personally and hope that because of the social restrictions that not too many of us get it at once.
 
just had a 40 minute walk to the shop and 40 minute back.
Just a small thing but could there be an instruction that when walking on pavements you walk facing oncoming traffic so you do not pass too close to other people.
 
Latest News: 919 people have died in the last 24 hours in Italy.

Absolutely awful and now you have to be seriously worried about the rest of Italy where lockdown procedures aren't as severe as Northern Italy.

None of it can tell you for sure what will happen in two weeks as there's so many other factors at play compared to other countries, but the best indicator for what will happen with deaths is number of overall cases and what's happening with that number.

I do not agree mate.

Deaths are very accurate, easily trackable numbers which clearly show how the disease is progressing throughout the population. Number of cases does not provide that clarity. If you test twice as many people, your number of cases will shoot up, even though the rate of infection has not increased. Ditto stopping testing suspected cases as we did a few days back. So it is a very poor and unreliable indicator. Deaths has no such variability or potential for inaccuracy.

It's a fairly reliable stat assuming that everyone who dies is tested for covid 19. That's not what's happened in Italy. And let's not forget that it's still possible to die from good old-fashioned flu or pneumonia.

Not really. We're currently testing 6,500 people per day, previously it was 5,000. So even if there was no increase in infections, we'd see a 33% increase in the recorded infections. And it's worse than that because we started focusing on higher risk groups, which probably pushes the numbers up even higher. Unless you have a constant and consistent basis for testing (and we have not) then its unreliable.
 
the new cases are not as awful as deaths. 5900, that's in line with numbers of last week and way below the record of 5-6 days ago.

Numbers of deaths are absolutely awful, but number of new cases bring some optimism.
 
Those numbers from Italy are awful. Sadly I suspect a lot of those who died may well have survived if there was more staff and equipment to treat everyone. Just amount of infected people is too overwhelming for medical staff to treat them all. Very sad for those who died and the medical staff as well who must feel dreadful over this situation.

Would be a surprise to see things relaxed in only a few weeks. If anything more restrictions could be added.
It’s been nearly two weeks for us in Spain already and we are looking at end of April minimum.

I got it because I'm on medication that affects my immune system, I know of a few people who thought they would be grounded because of Copd or heart problems didn't hear anything
