COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Think of the those who have to isolate for 12 weeks. They are about a week in.

We will get over this. It is hard. I find it difficult to focus on my work too. Very short attention span.
You're right and I'm not on my own in my house but yes, it must be awful if you're on your own and you're a lonely person.

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. Decided in the end to get off social media, switch off sky news completely and stick Netflix/Amazon prime on. Gone through about 7 seasons of The Office (US) and now decided to switch to Ozark. Still managed to get work done in-between.

I'm at a stage where i'll stay informed but not overdo it an extent where i'm seeing COVID-19 news twenty-four hours a day.

me too watch the daily briefing and that’s it ( apart from reading the mathematicians on here arguing about how many people will die)

I don't know why Gove went on Sky this morning,he wouldn't answer all the questions we want to know,Sophy Ridge kept pressing him but he would't give a straight answer

78,797 cases in total
Yeah. I’m generally supportive of the govt but that was a pretty crap effort. If ministers are to keep appearing - as they should - they need to be as well informed and transparent as political hand-bagging allows.

Ah you are one of those who only believe when Brandon on Facebook posts a link to some dodgy site that reinforces your belief that it’s all a plot to subjugate men or some other retarded bollocks.

If you had read the fucking article why did you attack it using the death rates directly caused by the virus when the article was clearly talking about something else? Is comprehension a problem?

On second thoughts don’t bother. Not in the mood for people’s deluded garbage.

I don't agree with you, get over it.

Good thinking. I put the national and local news on at 6 every night as normal and that is it. I had the misfortune to sit through 2 hours of the latest terminator film last night. Fuck me it's shit. Any recommendations welcome on prime or Netflix

On a personal note, the trends here in Switzerland look like we are reaching peak. I would estimate we are about a week ahead of the UK maybe 2. All the same type of interventions in similar timings with the exception that they closed the schools earlier.
We didn't have the same type of supermarket scrums as the general population are more compliant and of course with less than 10% of the UK population it's a little easier to manage. The police don't fuck about here either.

Fingers crossed the UK numbers will follow the same path.

I'm intrigued as to the role holidays, particularly school holidays, may have played in the spread of the virus. If there were Swiss holidays in February, were these organised at the Canton level or nationally? Presumably fewer people would have left Switzerland to ski in Italy. In the Netherlands, the initial hotspots were clustered in those areas where schools had been on holiday for Carnival- the 'Protestant' north of the country was thus comparatively unaffected- and many people seemed to travel abroad at that time. Less sure what happened in the UK, but guess many families and children were likely off and away at the same time.

@Chippy_boy what’s your take on Sweden’s approach at the moment ?

Sweden’s approach is very different, they are pretty relaxed about it all. Other than Stockholm they are pretty well spread out, got a lot smaller population, and also vast majority are healthy and keep very fit.

My brother is still working, hairdresser in centre of Stockholm, very busy.

I’m not convinced but he seems to think they are all pretty confident over there, interesting though that I can’t see that they released any figures for yesterday.

I hardly go on social media other than a local interest FB page, which I produce.

To be fair, I get enough debate on coronavirus from Bluemoon. We have input from loads of posters, not just from the UK, many of whom are thoughtful and well informed. There’s plenty of peer scrutiny, so any bollox “facts” are quickly challenged. Most of the politically motivated and more argumentative stuff was floated off to a different thread. If you don’t agree with someone’s views, it’s easy enough to argue back or even ignore. Skirmishes are temporary and stay within reasonable bounds.

All in all, I’d say this is a pretty balanced and interesting thread.

Spain also reports nearly 2,000 fewer new cases than the day before. With presumably close to 5,000 critical cases, its death total will inevitably increase, but there should be hope amidst the despair. Let's not concentrate only on the negatives. :-)

Apart from the fact a journalist in Spain just said the frontline staff don't believe their government are testing anywhere near enough people.
