First of all there should be no blanket bans like this at all. Everything should be judged on clinical need and realistic survival chances. Unfortunately, great though it would be to have a "tosser" label where tossers are the first to be denied treatment, I am not sure how that would work.

He’s replying, correctly, to a post in here. It’s getting really boring being told to post elsewhere when responding to a question in here. This is a subject that will invariably diverse into politics.

He answered a question with a correct answer regardless of how difficult that is to accept.

The shocking reality however is that if there is not enough capacity to treat everyone, you simply have to prioritise those with the best chances of survival. That does not make it any the less terrible, less diabolical. But to not do that, simply means more people dead.

To prioritise on the basis of long term use to society would be totally abhorrent. I imagine this is a proxy for prioritising those with the best survival chances, albeit a blunt instrument that sounds callous.

It must really distress NHS workers, too, as it goes against the grain not to attempt to save everyone.

Very sad.

It was on the 11am show. It may well be quickly removed and not shown again. But as I said it may well.be just his own local authority. Yes not sure but he was definitely the Villa fan saying he felt ill after going to the league cup final on March 1st. Glad I went, turned out to be my last game, but I was just starting to be aware it could be a risk, although it hadn't got a grip in this country then.

Scotland reports a further 16 people have died since Tuesday after contracting coronavirus.

This brings the country's total to 76

Ms Sturgeon said more people are now in intensive care and she said that is expected to increase over the next two or three weeks


1.7 million NHS assessments conclude people had coronavirus

More than 1.7 million NHS assessments in just over two weeks have concluded that people have had the coronavirus or are currently suffering from the virus.

There were 1,496,651 web-based assessments which flagged potential coronavirus based on people's symptoms between 28 and 31 March, new figures from NHS 111 online show.

Another 243,543 assessments via the NHS 111 and 999 phone lines concluded people had possible COVID-19.

The numbers do not relate to individual people, because it is possible people may have sought help more than once or via various channels


Government insists 'significant progress' amid questions over UK testing level

The UK will be able to test 25,000 people per day by "mid-April" - as Germany tests as many as 500,000 per week

Professor Matthew Freeman, head of Oxford's Dunn School of Pathology, one of Britain's leading disease research centres, claimed his repeated offers to provide dozens of specialised machines and expert staff had been largely ignored by Public Health England (PHE).

He said his department had 119 of the crucial PCR machines, or thermal cyclers, used to identify tell-tale genetic signs of coronavirus, but only one had been accepted so far.

Professor Freeman added that hundreds of specialist workers and trained graduate students were ready to help increase testing, but he had heard nothing more from PHE after an initial expression of interest

The whole thing about the masks not protecting us is bullshit anyway.

They aren't 100% effective. That's not the same as not protecting us. Harvard did a study on how many droplets different things stopped and even a shitty scarf was about 50%, with surgical masks up near 80%.

But for some reason the media heard that normal masks weren't 100% effective and started screaming about them not protecting people.

Imagine if everyone on public transport was protected 80%. If nothing else the initial viral load would be tiny compared to no mask and they've think that's the biggest determinate factor in getting it mildly or severely.

We’re furloughing 50% of our staff as of tomorrow, basically anyone not managing an account and crucial support, the Senior Leadership Team have all agreed to take a 20% pay cut and continue working to help, which is very good of them.

Whilst I’m still working and it doesn’t include me, it’s hit home how close the financial aspects of this is to me now.

Perhaps we have still got this wrong? Government (us) bailed out the banks the first time around.

This time the bailout is for businesses, big and small.

Businesses can always be started again. At this moment in time it is the people who need the money, it is they who will be needed to kick start the economy again via spending.

We would all have been better off if each household in this country was given £50k each to spend as they see fit to live for the next 12 months.

That would be spent on propping up the economy via bills being paid, food being eaten and preserving mental health.

Agree totally with this but I suspect the City and our government would see this as socialism.

Yep he said in another interview that he had symptoms but went to the game,ended up with a collapsed lung in intensive care
Last game ever or just last one before the games were stopped? I don't regret going

Mam is in her 80s in a care home and I haven’t been able to visit now for almost 3 weeks.

I said a couple of weeks back I didn’t expect to see her again and this news has just raised my fears of this.

If it meant a younger person may survive then I would accept that.
