Frankly, every local authority is in trouble with funding adult social care (a statutory obligation) so they are having to make more cuts to other stuff. Care homes were already closing because they don't make money. 1600 have closed in the last ten years (1 in 8). An arbitrary cut-off at 75 sounds inhuman but if someone has dementia or a chronic painful condition and gets coronavirus...

I've already heard people reminiscing about pneumonia as "old man's friend" (not nice but 100 years ago judged a relatively painless way to go).

It simply isn't always a good thing to prolong life. I have in mind a GP friend who had a stroke and survived but his quality of life was poor and caring for him ruined his wife's health.

Difficult decisions about who gets treated will swiftly become the norm.

I feared that PHE and NHS management was simply not up to this crisis and so it is proving.
Military command structures should have been put in place along side existing management structures to monitor performance and allow observations to be be made outside of the existing management structures that allow tactical and strategic improvements to be made on a day to day basis.
Probably too late now.

Don't worry (yet) It will take weeks for your cilia to grow back to perform it's normal function. Of more concern is the debris left behind. Any deterioration and you need to be on antibiotics pronto.

The loss of sense of smell is absolutely an indicator. Can’t believe his GP wouldn’t know that. On a positive note some doctor on Newsnight said there is some evidence building that the people who lose their sense of smell might tend to get a milder case overall. So fingers crossed this is the case for your dad.

575,000 died of swine flu worldwide in 2009 and 2010. Even that figure would only be early June by the time we surpass it. By the end of the year, who knows where we’ll stand...

i hope you are right mate, it sounded like they didn’t even want to entertain it, I understand they are strained like but still. Worrying times for everyone on here. 4 weeks ago this didn’t seem really, now I know about 6 people who’ve had it confirmed and think it’s in my parents house. Live abroad too so feel totally helpless :(

That will be the first batch, which you’d hope and expect would be for frontline health workers. Does anyone know what the timescales usually are from producing the initial batches to ramping it up so that it’s readily available for all? How many more months after first starting production?

I know several people who have had it and now feel okay. No way I know that many when only a hundred and odd in the UK have officially recovered.

They’re focusing on new cases and the deaths now.

Recovered presumably is only those who were confirmed as having had it - i.e. were tested.

Starting phase one trials in sept,there is 1000' of people in clinical trials,that takes a long time,it says some available for emergency use early next year,that is not the same as having it for widespread use,i will find something about the emergency use in a bit

This is what i worry about,my lungs don't feel anywhere near recovered and i am still coughing to the point of throwing up at night,it is 4 weeks now,maybe i am hoping for too much,my lungs were perfect before and if i am struggling then i feel very sorry for people who had pre-exsisting problems with theirs
