A strange signing, I guess he was intended to add strength and an aerial threat to City's attack which Neil Young couldn't offer, but Davies was always a one goal every four games kind of striker. I'd forgotten he went to United from us, did no better there

His role that season was more to lay the ball off for Franny than score a bagful of goals himself. I thought he did that job quite well.
 
Met him in the old Grand Hotel on Piccadilly. I was on a corporate do & he was sat at the next table in the bar with Alan Oakes & Derek Jeffries. They'd just arrived back from an away game (can't remember against who?). Nice guys, all 3 of them. He was a bit of a battering ram of a centre forward and you always got 100% out of him in every game.
He had that ability to "hang" in the air, like Denis Law.
