Just to give you a rough idea of the financial costs that this damned virus is bringing. In Ireland, the Dept of Social Protection (our equivalent of what used to be the DHSS when I was living in Blighty) processed 714,000 income support payments up to last friday. 507,000 Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) claims, and 207,000 standard jobseeker's (the dole) claims.

At the end of February, there were "only" 182,000 on the live register of unemployed people.

The PUP was only announced on March 16th. Gone from zero to over half a million in three weeks. Frightening. And that's only a small country like here. Fuck knows what it's costing the UK..

Was said 360billion mate

Strange they think the problem has gone away. They'll loosen up for a very short period and the cycle will repeat, repeatedly, until everyone has had it and/or there's a vaccine. This is going to play out for at least another 12 months best case scenario. China is still under pretty tight restrictions.

The virus isn't going away but the Austrian Government clearly think that's the best approach for them. Building up resistance in the population in a controlled way (as opposed to a reckless herd immunity approach) will probably be a feature of several countries' ongoing response to the virus.

Think without a vaccine it will have to be, months of lockdown isn’t sustainable, at least not all in one go.

Death figures down but again is probably due to limited weekend staff.

True figures will be out tomorrow and then we'll see where we are at.

The problem isn't a problem it's well understood.
The tests are not 100% accurate. Not even close. That is why the bullshit Test test test mantra is fucking worthless.
Not to worry, someone was quoted as saying we should be doing 66 million per week which is 109 tests per second or 392,857 people per hour, roughly 7 full Etihads!

im no testing expert but im sure i heard they were around 90% accurate, which isnt bad as we have only known the virus for a few months, that leaves a 10% margin for error, maybe people could be multi tested say 5 times so after 3 negative results its a pretty good bet you would be clear, this will reduce the error margin from 10% to around 5%

Another 403 in England,is that up from yesterday ?.One day it's the UK figure next day England figure don't know what's what.
It is down 152 on English hospital deaths recorded on Saturday. But there is a drop in deaths from the trend every Monday.
Also, they are making a better stab at recording deaths outside hospital in England - there were 45 of those yesterday.
(Add Saturdays total NI+Wales+Scotland figures to yesterdays english hospital deaths [555] and you come up with 576 which is 45 short of the 621 UK total that was announced on Sunday.)
