COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Yes they are, but they are a bit odd, they have relatively lower days then all of a sudden huge days like today. Think they are checking previous care home, and add the figures from other places all in one batch. April 3rd was another day like today they added 20,000 new cases.
Weekend catch up and possibly the statistical catch up on the previous week.
Though maybe they are the reason the French introduced new measures today.

This morning, whilst I was at work, I thought I'd check the state of play for our wards.

Let me just say 3/4 of the wards are COVID-19 pts.

Each one of those wards had an elderly pt that were found on the floor at home.

I suspect these pts are part of the 'forgotten' that have had to self isolate and nobody has thought about them too much. I hope I'm only guestimating the problem.

We have had half the hospital as COVID pts for 2 weeks and the issue is spreading to the other side.

Tonight I learned some of our doors are being shut with access only for staff entry. That means no real A&E access.

I think, within 2-3 weeks, we will solely be a COVID hospital.
I saw on the press briefing today that NW hospital admissions are going up. I think NW has coped reasonably well compared to London and Midlands up until now.

I believe the plan is to send regular pts into the Nightingale so this would be consistent with that.

Yeah, I thought similar and then I looked at what has been closed within the hospital's control.

It has emptied the NHS support for the elderly on its grounds & closed other A&E depts.

It's proper snowballing and we'll have lots of (redeployed & inexperienced) staff contracting this virus in an attempt to help.

And what happens when that gets issues?

They'll be dealing with nurses that may have already been carrying the virus!

I think it's inevitable.
Not sure to be honest.
Sister in law has been working on setting up all the temporary hospitals and she told me the plan for Manchester Central.

The figures from France are very scary. 1,400 deaths .....

I think a lot of countries such as Spain and Italy are close to that, but aren’t reporting a lot of deaths

Nope. Sweden is following the same trend as everyone else. Their rate is the same. It's also the same as Denmark. you can't look at a single datapoint. if you want to compare you need to graph the data from a known starting point to remove the time lag between countries and then compare.

It's like saying germany are doing something special. If you plot new deaths over total. They are the same as us but a week to 10 days behind. We are a couple of weeks behind italy.
You are correct. Sweden is 3 days in front of Denmark, and 5 in front of Norway, taking 10 deaths as a starting point.
But.. 15 days from starting point Norway are at 89, whereas Sweden were at 309. Denmark 179.
These differences will be magnified in the coming weeks.

We're sending our patient kids there and turning that ward into another COVID one to release the pressure.

Sending the kids to Central wouldn't be done unless it was COVID free!

Interesting.

The good news seems to be that despite the actions of a few tossers the stay at home message may well be working as a result with the extra steps that are being taken there are enough ICU beds at the moment ... there are those that are dying but for now the NHS is being stretched but not swamped.

Lets hope we can do this.

France

Across the nation, a total of 10,328 have now died with COVID-19, a rise of 1,417 in the past 24 hours.A nation that had begun to hope it had got some kind of a grip on the coronavirus pandemic is now confronted by the fact that deaths are still rising at a ferocious pace

We just cannot afford to relax,we have to stick with it till the end

Boris remains in intensive care on oxygen

Sky news

I think you should do the daily press briefing tomorrow Karen.
Tell them journos off.

Hospitals across the land are being (or have been) reconfigured to separate COVID-19 and imune deficient patients (mainly cancer related) by location.
My daughter (registrar) found it astonishing how a bureaucracy famed for filling in documents in triplicate could push through the moving of cancer and children's services to a different hospital in two days flat.

The Canaries have had their lockdown, which is tougher than here, extended for another two weeks. Tenerife has been the hardest hit but bizarrely Fuerteventura has had no deaths so far.

It's all relative. If you make it relative to total then it looks like this:

Sweden are on a lower trajectory than much vaunted Germany!! And what is the Netherlands doing right?
You have to divide by the population to get comparable figures though...

Nope, not until it's over.

Population density might be useful but it's not uniform in any one country.
As a statistician, I agree you can't clarify the situation until your Retrospectoscope is available, but equally, I would say you can only compare average day to day death rates for now, also hospital and ICU admission rates.
Not new case rates which depend on the testing regime.

Haha! That cheered me up. I was honestly the same at 8 o’clock like a fucking one man band on my street. I don’t care less. I love Boris! Hang on in there big man. I love you and so does that cockney!
It’s almost a philosophical question. If you applaud Johnson in a Labour stronghold, and no-one is around to hear it, did it make a sound?

It’s weird how Corbyn fans were described as part of a cult and accused of hero worship whereas it’s perfectly acceptable to have Boris as a hero and report any mildly derogatory post about him for some people. I’m not a Corbynite, but some of the nasty stuff posted about him from certain people that is now deemed unacceptable by them is telling. Similar to that rhetoric used by Julia Hartley-Brewer.

Just think on when you are wishing the worst on people who don’t represent your ideologies. We never know what is around the corner.

I wish Boris the best of luck and the quickest of recoveries.
