Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Oh, no source -- just my own take.

I'm guessing any congregation -- at casinos, concerts, sporting events, airports, railway stations, theme parks, etc. -- can't really happen again until there's a vaccine and it's broadly distributed.

Whether there are legal restrictions or it's just a natural fear-based response by average individuals, I just don't see how humans will allow Petri dishes to re-form unless they're convinced that they and their families are basically safe from the virus.

Locally, small groups/clusters can re-form. A restaurant with a limit on guests and tables six feet apart. People will be willing to interact with others who have been tested and are negative before a vaccine, so they'll go out with friends.

Schools I'm not so sure about -- there will be immense pressure to re-open in the fall given the relative lack of death risk among the young, but I'd guess it's touch-and-go at least here in the USA.

It's a very extreme perspective, I recognize -- I'm not at all sure I am right.
A pessimistic view but you may well be right, unless there is massive pressure to get back to normal and most sportsmen, women catch it and survive. Certainly think it will kill a few fair in the tent cities of California and Syria and that may be seen as a good thing by some

Teams need a preseason of 4 weeks according to KDB so work back from August, so they need to lift lockdown at the latest end of May, that’s only 7 weeks away. Then they would have to play all games in July and that’s with no further lockdown and it certainly won’t be in packed stadiums. This season is over.
Pre season probably longer, some of these players will have been eating donuts and pizzas and entertaining ladies of the night for longer than the usual summer shutdown. Either way there is no way football is being played again before August. If the season is to be finished for August, they will be working on a solution that works out placings based on whats already happened. The fairest solution is to void the season but as we all suspect there will be dark forces (well not dark in reality) working to put the title in the hands of the cnuts on Merseyside

I think the penny may well be dropping with some of the clubs and their owners. UEFA chiefs that are just suck on the tit will hang on for as long as it doesn't run dry. We're not even reaching peak levels yet and the financial damage will last for decades. Businesses have gone to the wall and will continue to do so. Football clubs will inevitably be part of that process. It is not about finishing a season, it is whether they will exist by next year. The money that has been awash in football at the top level in this country will not garner sympathy for them in the future. Whether this virus kills more or less than a normal winter season of flu, attitudes have changed, world has changed. The saving grace is that at the moment our club is financially strong . Let's hope Sheikh Mansour is keeping safe.

You may well be right. It’s definitely not going to be over by June/July as some people make out in any case. The Spanish flu went on for over two years, it wouldn’t be unprecedented
Spanish flu Jan 1918 to Dec 1920, football restarted for the 1919/20 season. Football will commence before this crisis is properly over, no doubt about that.

I don't see any way (1) can happen without grossly shortening or cancelling next season. By summer, it is possible people certified as Covid-free in essential businesses will be allowed to go back to work. The PL will no more pass that test than I will get a Nobel Prize. Fall time resumption is possible if everything falls right. But then you have to have pre-season to get the players back into shape. So you are looking at a late Fall start.

Also, added option 4

Option 5 - similar to option two but the first three teams to go bust are relegated.

There you have it Livarpool are to be crowned Champions on orders of Mr Cerefin. Therefore the way I see it, if Livarpool are Champions the season must be over and done with. There is no point in completing the rest of the fixtures. That means that Bournemouth, Norwich and Aston Villa are relegated, and so on right through the other divisions. With the top 3 promoted and the bottom 3 relegated. End of story.

If that happens expect a lot of cases in the courts. It just cannot be done just because Mr Cerefin says so.

If awarded to dippers they cannot claim to be Centurions....BUT their fans will claim to have done it in the quickest time..twats.
They'd be right too - the title was decided at the fa HQ sometime between may and August last year.
